2018 Live from the saddle....

I'm in the tree now. 92 degrees and 103,267% humidity with hurricane Florence on the coast. I'm a sweaty mess. Just had a spike come by. He almost got shot.

That’s 7 points for the competition right there....

Thank you for sharing! I hope he gets one soon! Did they work out good for you?

Yeah they worked great! This was his second hunt out of a saddle, first time was in a preset tree. This is the first time he used the Sticks, he loved them. He's a 6-foot 4-inch monkey so he can get 20-plus feet with four sticks. He has also claimed my Predator platform. Looks like I'll be ordering another one soon.

The worst first climb ever lol but im up. The added gear did not help. Sitting till dark....gonna make it happen lol
It is good to know that even veteran saddle hunters sometimes struggle with the climb and set up. Some days it seems to go so smooth and then the next climb is terrible lol Just to be clear in no way am I a "veteran" this is just season 2 for me!

Yes we sometimes do!! So my first climb was on Saturday and i had practiced prior to this but not as much as I should have. I had modded my sticks so the 2ft gap between steps posed an issue because i was not used to climbing with the pack on. Without the pack no problem but with a small amount of weight it posed a little different since my weight was set back more but i could still make the step it just felt different.

Then i got to the top and was going to secure my predator and attached it like @g2outdoors did in his video with the gear tie.... well I didn’t tie it enough lol brain fart. Platform dropped and i had to climb back down then back up. Good thing i gave myself plenty of time to make all these crazy movements lol. Add the heat and 96% humidity and it just well wasn’t a great way to start.

Lessons learned practice with your gear regardless your saddle level and do a few dry runs when changing. We have a front of florence coming through tomorrow no time today to hunt so we will look at Thursday for the next hunt. Veteran or beginner things to remember PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!

Great post @MCDM

If definitely happens. Saddle shape is a thing too. I found myself getting a little squirrelly after 3.5 hours.

Last year i was much better prepared and was sitting 6-8hrs a day no problems. This year will be tough lol at least for the first month. But i can’t Agree with you more on that saddle shape practice practice. Its like riding a bike you never forget but your body just needs to be reminded lol

Oh i also want to add that predator is durable took a 20 foot fall hit my sticks and a boulder no dents and worked like a dream after i got it back in my hands.

All I’ve done so far this morning is slowly ease a mile through a peninsula looking for pigs... but I am SOAKED in sweat.
95% humidity doesn’t help the situation, and it’s almost 80 degrees out at 8:30. Hopefully we get another cold snap before deer season opens.

I don't know how you guys do it in that heat. I normally don't hunt the first two weeks of October because its still too warm. Kudos to you for pushing through.

I live in the northeast and ill tell you its been high 80’s close to 90’s with the humidity well above 95% one of the reasons i passed deer this weekend. The other reason is they were kinda small so for the amount of effort i thought would not be the effort for the amount of meat in return. When i was younger running around in this weather was not bad because i worked outside for a living. As I grew up and worked indoors my tolerance level has decreased or im just getting older lol only 36 but feel years older lol!!!

That's the same weather we are having.
