Big ol giant buck - like 150 or better --- shot a 126 5/8, more than thrilled
Win the saddle hunter contest! --- we came close!
Get a sweet Buckstache --- Definitely achieved this one, will be doing it again.

2020 goals in addition to the above:
Shoot an elk in Colorado during the archery season - either sex
Shoot one with my new muzzle loader pistol
Shoot a 150 or better, a guy's gotta dream!

Emphasis on SWEET buckstache

1) Not have to buy red meat
I havent had to buy any this year or the year before. I've bought a few ribeyes because I like me some dead cow, but with 10 deer, 2 hogs, lots of small game, and trotlines, my chest freezer has stayed full. It's awesome. Now we have chickens, so I am drowning in protein!

I only have one quarter left in the freezer. My chickens will have to pick up the slack until September. It's good to be diversified in your protein portfolio.

- Become a respectable trap shooter
- Expose hunters to the benefits of saddle hunting by hosting a meetup
- Learn something from every trip into the woods / swamp
- Use the kayak to escape public land pressure
BONUS - replenish the freezer with lean red meat

My goals for 2020-2021

1. Shoot a 10 point. (Never shot one tons of eights though)
2. Film a saddle kill (either mine or someone elses)
3. Get my son on a bigger buck than he got last year.
4. Try some of the Public land I scouted last year and never got to hunt
5. Film a kill in WV when I hunt there
6. Kill a buck in MD
7. Put my wife on another good buck (her last one was actually her first one, but it was a great first deer on Public land)

Kill my first deer

That’s it. The entirety of my goals. I only have 1 acre of Huntsville private land and I’m already agonizing over what public areas I want to scout. I only get one travel weekend to hunt so I have to make it count. This will be my third season hunting and I have zero to shoe for it so far. I need a mentor.

Where are you at? I’m in southern Wisconsin. Huntsville was supposed to be “huntable”

Dont get discouraged.....public land is tough. This will be season 6 for me and ive yet to harvest 1 off public....lots of close calls but luck hasn't been on my side. If I'm within bow range of a deer I call that a win, even if I dont get a shot. Main goal is to have fun and learn more....

Always been a big waterfowler. Tried to take deer hunting seriously 7-8 years ago. Miserable fail. So my goals are:

1-be safe and have fun using my new to me saddle
2- harvest my first deer
3- improve my woodsmanship and deer finding abilities
4- harvest a mature buck using info ive learned through various online resources including this site, THP and infalt videos to name a few. (Run n gun bedding hunting style)

Hope everyones goals become realities this year!!!

One peice of advice I wish my dad would've drilled into me when we were kids was when hunting public land (I've hunted almost exclusively public my entire life) have a plan B, C, D, and so forth. Ive had so many places to include going deep like everyone says to do end up having someone there already when I get there. Dont let it discourage you though. If spot A is taken dont worry you habe a plan B, C, D. I will also say it is so much more rewarding killing a public land buck IMO. Good luck, and if you ever have any questions I'd be glad to answer to the best of my ability.

I have a Cinderella list of goals for this year and I will take any or none as long as I get to sit in a tree as much as possible since this is my first year hunting ever.

Prepare every day physically, shooting, scouting in some form, continuous research.
First deer kill.
First deer killed and properly gutted/field dressed.
First deer killed with a compound bow.
First deer killed from a saddle or treestand (primarily saddle).
First deer killed on out of state trip. Plan on spending the rut in GA thanks to my neighbor.
Helping a buddy with one of his harvests: tracking and gutting/field dressing.
Learning and perfecting my gear: clothing, saddle, etc.
First turkey.

Again, I'll take any or none, just to get to sit in a tree all season.

Man goals are the most important thing to have going into any hunting season. Goals can keep you hunting when it gets tough, by keeping you focused, and at times can rein you in when you loosing that drive.
My goals for this year:
1 hold out for a buck that is as good or better than last years deer. I have a hard time passing a racked buck.
2 learn how to apply the knowledge I've gained over the past 3 seasons more effectively.
3 hunt less, but make the time I do hunt higher quality sits...

1) Help my stepson get his first deer, hopefully several this season.
2) Figure out what saddle equipment and setups work best for us, get things dialed in.
3) Fill the freezers, we LOVE deer meat.

I'm always in search of a good buck, but honestly want him to get his first and get hooked.
