@gcr0003 You still need me to bring sausage, right?
And where are we meeting to squirrel hunt. Do you have a place we can just meet and walk in, then spread out?
And I don't see the archery range on the map???

Yea bring some sausage if you would. I’m trying to figure out a good spot to meet up for squirrel hunting. I will update y’all tomorrow. You can’t miss the archery park it’s right next to the water park.

Wow, wish I was down there. I have some land near the Bankhead between Haleyville and Double Springs.

What really? That’s awesome. You aren’t thinking of leasing it are you?

I might be inclined to let a guy hunt it. This past fall the neighbors SIL asked to hunt it. It’s not huge but has a great hollow bordered by paper company land on the back end

And if I buy a annual it’s up in Aug? That sucks
In Tn ours is up Feb 28 every year. That sucks also. It should be 1 year from the day you buy it.

See you in a tree, Ricky
Used to be ours lasted a year from purchase date. Then they outlawed gill nets, with the exception of those who were grandfathered in, then they bought the net rights from the folks who were grandfathered. Had to pay them annually. They wanted all the money from licenses to hit at once for budgeting purposes.

How do I know this obscure bit of trivia? My wife was a 6th generation net maker before recreational fishermen with deep pockets hamstrung the local commercial guys using environmentalism as a weapon. Gotta love it! About 20 cents of every dollar you spend in Alabama licensing goes towards research, habitat, etc. The rest goes towards enforcement and "administration expenses." :(

@Nutterbuster just reminded me of something that probably wouldn't be obvious to those that dont typically hunt wheeler. If you choose to bring a shotgun you're limited to steel shotshells. That said, I'd recommend just bringing a .22 if you have one. @Kenbama and I are going to look at a couple spots this afternoon and let you know where we plan to meet in the morning.

I read that on the permit. Figured that would be some expensive squirrel hunting. Lol

Deer and hog season is closed from what I read. So if we come up on a hog, we can't shoot.
I'm bringing the 22. Cheaper and thats my preferred squirrel killer!

Whew still looking at that out of state annual! $320 ya'll don't want nobody coming to hunt you state! lol I need to get it though with turkey being around the corner
