Sdorton 11 pt - 16

Check the contest submission thread. It looks like @Micneador just added some points to the trad team. Congrats on a nice buck @Micneador!

Kind of forgot to post him here lol. Pictures make him look waaayy bigger than he really is, but he's a dandy. That's my first deer with a long bow too. Screenshot_20231002_004610_Gallery.jpg

@Redbeard Had a good, full weekend. Saturday morning had the stand adventure. That afternoon I hung at one of my all time favorite spots. It’s an inside corner that is made even better due to it having a shallow saddle about 50 yards inside the timber in line with the corner. About 6:15 had two bucks come by. A 120” class 8 and what I thought was a big 6 that turned out to be a 7. He had a dinky little g3 on one side. The 8 is on the gets one more year list and of course he offered a couple of great shot ops inside 20 while the 7 I was going to shoot never got where I could have killed him with buckshot. A little wind shift for yesterday morning, predicted, had me planning to hang a different spot at a T where a land bridge connects two ridges. First deer was 2 does and a big fawn. One of the big does got right at 17. Entrance was a little high but ok. Hit offside shoulder and did not exit. Decided to give it an hour because I was concerned I might not have a good blood trail and better light may be helpful. Shot was at 7am. At 7:30 had 2 more does and 2 fawns move through about 75 yards out. Got down right at 8 and found first blood about 10-15 feet from the shot. Had 2 spots about 5 yards each where I had to slow down and look close for blood but other than that it was an easy trail that didn’t require bending to see. She piled up about 100 yards out on the compass bearing I took from the tree. Shot her with my head and she didn’t break the arrow which really surprised me considering it wasn’t a pass thru and it’s a wood arrow.

That is a dandy of buck, and to be your first with a trad bow is impressive! What’s the story? How far was the shot?
First with a long bow. I shot a decent 8 pt last year with my recurve.

I've had him on camera for 6 straight days under a hot red oak. Mostly in the evening, some in the morning and a few times around 1-2 pm. All daylight, never in the dark.

Moved in at noon yesterday in case he made another mid afternoon snack, nope, he came in at 7 pm. Drew on him once and he passed through the hole I had to shoot through. Was patient, didn't force anything, let him come into another opening bout 10 yards at a steep angle. Drew back, settled for a split second, and pulled through the shot. Knew the hit was good but could not for the life of me find blood after taking up the track. Called the local tracking dog/handler superstars and he made the 195 yards in about 4 minutes flat. He died in a hay meadow that the bluestem was 7' tall. No way I would have found him on my own.

Would you mind keeping that tally? Will be interesting to see what it looks like by the end of the season. With @Micneador droppin ol toad on the thread looks like we are at 60 and off and running.

Sure I don’t mind. Should the team be created with the first 13 unique users with trad kills? We could make it any user trad bow kill from on the site or we could say they need to enter it on this thread for their deer to go toward that the 2023-24 unofficial trad team score? Limiting it to 13 users would make it the same number of team members as the official teams. All the same rules apply?

Yeah for it to be representative, prolly needs to be first 13 paid members and same rules. Thanks for tracking it!!

Might need to start a separate thread for point tracking too for a couple reasons, to not clutter up the trad kill thread and so other folks see it that might not look at this thread. Call it unofficial trad team or team bringing the wood or something.

Had 3 come in together Saturday morning. Big doe offered a quartering away shot at 16. Shot her back of the ribs going in and almost got a full pass through. Punched a small hole low in the pocket on the exit side. Then the little doe circled around and came back to within a foot of where I shot the first one. Second shot was broadside. First one was shot with a tree shark and the second with my 3 blade prototype.

Was the pic in the submission thread shot with your prototype?

First kill with my Satori and Gobi limbs at 45#, this past Saturday. 175 gr. Steel Force single bevel, 540 TAW and 23% FOC.
Adult doe at 10 yards. :)
First shot was high on the shoulder, which also broke her spine and dropped her. I quickly followed up with a second shot, while she was flopping around, but that one caught her in the spine too, only from the bottom up. It killed her quickly, but the photo wasn't user friendly with 2 arrows sticking out in opposite directions.
It don't always happen the way you want, but it's called hunting and sometimes issues have to be handled as they arise.
Getting is at the grocery store.

EDIT ADD: My brother is very computer savvy and offered to remove the arrows from the doe photos. I'm very impressed and also able to share the photos without the explanation of "what happened".

Yep. Second deer with that specific head this year and third deer for that head total. Hoping I dont wreck or lose that one, it's got that mojo. Gonna touch it up and remount it on a new shaft for the upcoming GA trip.
What’s this prototype?

Edited: unofficial trad team score updated to only include trad kills from the official contest submission thread

This puts the TT in second behind team 1 with 62 points and counting.
