Now that we're talking about modding/DIYing baits...
Does anybody know a good place to order the stuff to make spinnerbait? I want to make small (1/8 or smaller) spinners with a single gold blade and instead of a skirt use a zman diezel minnow. Basically make a strike king redfish magic bait but without having to put up with the beetle spin type clip.

For someone who shoots rage knockoffs because the improvement in performance has diminishing returns, it’s funny to see you wanna invent the perfect spinnerbait.
I'm glad you're amused.
There's no difference between a knockoff rage and a real one in my experience after shooting a couple of dozen deer with each. There is a difference in how often a real spinner bait vs a beetle-spin type lure gets
hung on structure or needs to be untangled from itself. I've come to that conclusion after lots of hours pitching both. They're also easier to unhang from an underwater limb. Just generally less hassle.
I have actually put a diesel minnow on that exact Strike King lure. It works in that it hangs up less and is generally less maintenance, but I find that the spoon doesn't work as well. The redfish magic spoon will flash with a very, very slow retrieve and while it may be in my head I think I get more hits on gold spoons than silver in our chocolate milk water. Just what I think I'm seeing after a couple of summers of throwing them.
Since you're already shaking your head, I'll double down. I'm doing all this to create the perfect choupique lure. I wanna fish the local grinnel rodeo with my old man this father's day and that diesel minnow/ gold spoon combo is the best artificial I've found for them so far. You can fish it really slow in really shallow, stagnant, warm, low-oxygen water where they hang out in the summer. And that elaztech plastic holds up really well to those hellhound teeth.
Barlows is top notch.@Nutterbuster might try here... https://barlowstackle.com/

After a 25+ year hiatus from attempting to eat trout, I tried some fresh caught from one of our local rivers a couple weeks back. Gag a freakin maggot nasty just like every other time or way I have tried it. Makes fine coon bait though. Nail a metal stringer to a tree, hang your trouts on there with a little jingle bell or empty rink can. In town you may draw as many cats as you do coons but they are fine practice too. If you get a banded one, dont call in about it. Dont work the same way duck bands do.What's wrong with you lol
Use this recipe and you won't ever complain again.
