We'll open a sign up thread sometime in September for "green badged" members. Once the signup deadline passes @redsquirrel has a secret "formula" for randomly selecting teams. Don't worry if your season starts before the contest, just get a picture of your deer with the saddle and it'll get counted. Check out the 2022 Hunting Contest forum for more info, it'll be really similar to that.

Sign ups will probably open up the last week of August or first of September. My seasons opens up on the 9th and I usually try to have things done before I start hunting.

It's a random draw. One of the attractions of the contest for me is to hear stories and experiences from guys in places I've not hunted and have no experience in. There's a lot of similarities but there's a lot of differences as well. I've been on teams with guys from FL to OK, MN to Ontario as well as the east coast.

Any deer taken legally out of a saddle counts toward the contest. Each entrant is allowed to enter 2 deer. The scoring is 5 base points per deer plus the count of antler points for the biggest buck (i.e. only one is eligible for bonus points). The thing is you can upgrade at any time if you have already entered two and then shoot something bigger. For instance if you enter a six point and doe you have a score of 5base+6pts+5base=16. If you later shoot a ten point then you can upgrade the doe and your score becomes 5base+5base+10pts=20. Criteria for submittal has historically been a picture of the deer with your saddle visible in it. Rules for this year haven't been finalized yet but you can see last years rules here, I don't expect them to change much.

2022 Contest Rules

Rules: Eligibility: Any paid member of Saddlehunter.com (SH Member) is eligible to enter in the contest. 1. The kill must be out of a saddle style stand, any legal weapon is allowed. 2. Whitetail, blacktail, mule and sika deer are permitted. 3. Does are worth 5 points, bucks are worth 5 points...

I should mention the contest is only for fun, comaradarie and bragging rights. There's really nothing else to be gain (i.e. no fancy prizes for the winners) but I personally enjoy the comaradarie and find the contest pushes me a bit more to get out in the woods on days where I might not be all gung ho.

Ain’t that the truth! 30 years in the Navy conditioned my wife to a steady diet of 6 month (or more) absences with 1 & 2 month’rs thrown in there to keep her from relapsing. Prolly the only reason we are still married lol. So yeah, I just tell her that “deployment” starts on the first day of deer season and she breaks out the “pre-deployment” honey do list because she knows nothings getting done after deployment starts.

I barely pay for myself buddy. You act like I have spare money to just pay for other members that don’t kill deer, GRC…. While I appreciate you thinking so highly of me, I want to add that you sound a little jealous that you don’t have saddle hunter sponsors :sweatsmile:
