2024-25 Traditional Kills

South Dakota over a decoy. I've passed bigger bucksin Illinois this season waiting for a good one. I'm only in SoDak a few days so I figured it was time to kill one. I'm sure I've put 200 hours in stand so far. It was time to draw blood.
You get extra credit for hunting out of that ladder stand in my book. I cant stand them durned things, have zero confidence hunting from them.

Then check out the wooden ladder stands I've built on my home property.
I would have to ghille that to have any confidence hunting from it. I know it's silly but thats the way my brain works. Guess it's from growing up only hunting from climbers or lock ons.

That stand is like a ground blind or a shed on a farm. First week deer look at it real suspiciously, then they start looking for things that are different, then they glance at it when they remember, then they ignore it unless it moves.

Should have been a really nice 8pt too but I clipped a limb.

Edit to add it was not the buck from the "Live" thread. He was a fair bit better that one, different spot the next day.

Yet another reason why the east coast natives burned the understory. Those little twigs cost me two nice buck this week!

Nice job on the double does.

Took up the trad bow 3 years ago Thanksgiving to make my Bowhunting more challenging and that has been an understatement. I was fortunate to get a big doe the end of winter bow 2022 just about 2 months to the day from starting.

Last year after going to the Single String Boot Camp with coaching I improved my alignment and my DL increased substantially. It grew more right before the season started but with my high anchor I was clicking loudly my nock on the lense of my glasses. I tried to lower the anchor and would often aim as if I was at the higher anchor and miss the target completely. I went back to the compound due to the target panic that developed. This year I figured out how to keep the same anchor and come into anchor without clicking on my lense.

I missed my one opportunity in October but more than made up with it in November. I hunt county parks in NJ and we have to shoot an antlerless deer before a buck. On Nov 1 I was able to take a button buck in the morning and in the afternoon I took the biggest buck of my life which is also my second?/ First buck with traditional equipment. He was 13-40 yards for 43 minutes before he ended up in the laurels behind me at 13 yards. I made a perfect double lung shot and he ran in a semi circle within 20 yards of two hunters getting ready to walk into the woods! The best part was he dropped 10 yards from the road. I just drove to it and got it in the back of my truck. The following week I got my first deer a doe with a longbow I had bought a few weeks before.

A year and a day after picking up a trad bow and getting the bug, I killed my first trad deer. October 28th. The shot was 6 yards from the tree.

I killed my second trad deer on November 8th. Shot her at around 17 or 18 yards. I’m more proud of these two deer than any I’ve ever taken. There’s something to these stick bows!.

Well boys, I’m finally on the board. My 8th doe this season but I’m more proud of this one than just about any deer I’ve shot in the last few years. She was 17yds at my 2oclock. She bolted after the shot with about 15-16” ove arrows sticking out. I have a long draw so still got 16-18” of penetration. I only got 1 lung &
it was a long night. I bumped her blood trailing about 4 hours after the shot. I went back out 1st thing this morning & she was tucked into a deadfall, stone dead. Not how I drew it up, but dang I’m hooked. Got the pups some work as well! IMG_1635.jpegIMG_1634.jpegIMG_1633.jpegIMG_1632.jpegIMG_1631.jpeg

Nice Job and I Like Those Arrers. That's All I Shoot

What arrows are they?

I have my last hunt this Saturday and I'm taking my longbow out. Hoping to get my first too. I'm actually really nervous. But I realizes I can't keep saying 'when I get more confident'. Just got to go do it and realizes there never was any pressure except from myself. Trad, compound, Xbow, whatever, just have fun.

Yep. No pressure at all except from you... and all your internet buddies :tearsofjoy:
