2024 Gear thread

Westies can be downright pricks about whitetails and eastern hunting, but really, does the species matter at all elk vs. mulies vs. whitetail? If you're mountain hunting, you're mountain hunting. The pack capabilities don't really change. What changes it is carrying 10-15 pounds of metal crap to climb a tree, and why the big pack companies have ignored that there is a huge opportunity there, well, I've been saying it for 10 years now. Clearly, I have no influence. Nor do I want to, I'm sick and tired of mountin hunting being a trendy fad. Eventually someone is going to work on it. Maybe someone is, great, I don't keep up with this stuff anymore.
There is much more money to be made in western mountain hunting. From the states charging massive amounts for out of state tags and causing website crashes to buy one crappy elk tag down to the guides and what they charge. On the east coast we are just some hillbillies in mossy oak from Wal mart.

Lol.

Still, with $300+ whitetail bags like Tethrd‘s FAS pack and Lone Wolf’s Wolf pack, would it kill them to add one bag specifically for for whitetail? It’s not like they need to change the frame design(s).

EXO’s most expensive bag costs less than the FAS pack.

Along with the 150 grain single bevel, rumors of a 150 steel black hornet are bumping around.

With the bags, we all get caught up on whitetail designs. But to go with the A hole westerner, what is so different? I carry a few gear items, clothes and maybe an animal when I’m in the mountains. I carry a stand when out east. I can pack all my whitetail gear in an Exo, Kifaru, Seek, Kuiu, MR or any other bag. We have all realized there is no one bag and the market is not as big as we would like to think. The few treestand bags out are decent.

It comes down to the desired functionality of the design for the given hunt. They are minor differences at glance but significant in regular use. Tons of western packs, tons of packs for the whitetail hunter that only hunts private or close to the truck or cant legally quarter and pack a whitetail out. There is not a purpose built frame pack for the mobile whitetail hunter. At least not what I would call a good one.

Not to side track the thread but that’s the point. We here think there is a big market. The pack companies say otherwise. It’s not worth it to them to dive in. We are not as big as we think we are.

Would love to see something in saddlecloth.....even if I don't need one.

To bring it back to specific relevance, we’re just celebrating 10years of this forum…and posting on a thread about new saddlehunting gear, that has only picked up steam each year.

TN Ultimate in FL Specter
I have that one and like it well enough (it was 20% off awhile back). I will note the inside of the pouches is not orange like on their regular models.

Hadn’t seen it until now, thought it was new.

I’ve just the regular Blackbelt saddle. Most comfortable saddle I’ve tried. There’s things I like better about my other saddles but for blind comfort I think it tops them all.

The Ultimate is quite a bit more cash, especially in camo. Ultimately, lol, it still costs less than owning 4 different saddles like I do.

If it’s the one! Solid money spent. lol.

You have one! That’s amazing. Timber Ninja is a good name because their products are seen as much as ninjas in the night
