2024 Gear thread

It’s just like LaCrosse or Red Ball, all were high quality USA made rubber back in the day and lasted forever then they all went to that foam junk yet dried out and cracked within a year after paying $120 for a pair.

Well that really sucks.. View attachment 99956
Man that's a shame... Just got in from trudging through some swamps in my royal zips that I bought in 2019. Hundreds and hundreds of miles walked in them, they're covered in scratches from briars and the treads are getting worn down, but they still keep my feet dry. Gonna have to grab another pair.

Not sure if this will peak anyone’s interest but I believe this is a new pack for 2024 from MR. I pulled the trigger because they had a 25% off sale. I’m switching to hybrid set up and was looking for 18-20L with outside lashing for rattle horns or extra clothes, was looking at the eberlestock bandit but this one got me because with those straps my stand can turn into a meat hauler if I get lucky.

I attach the old military backpack straps and lumbar belt which also happens to have loadlifters and it makes my stand into a frame pack. Hopefully this little pack will be just enough space and also serve as a meat hauler.

Should be here in a few days, we’ll see what it’s like

Has this been mentioned? If so, I guess I missed it.

14.5 x 14.75 and weighing in at 3lb15oz?

It was posted but didn’t generate much attention. All the talk was about that hybrid thing Novix announced.

The dimensions of this Raider platform are great and it’s competitively light for it’s size.

I’ve never stood on anything from the Raider lineup and have some reservations about that style of build for me. I asked if anyone had used a Raider series stand, but don’t remember much of a response.

I think it’s priced a bit high, considering the cast aluminum platforms that cost about the same.

What is it about that style of build that's got you hung up?

I'm also looking at the size to weight comparison. At almost 15x15 and under 4 pounds, that's pretty impressive.

I'm terribly indecisive over this whole platform thing. I'm torn between the EDP, the Mission, the RZR Mag 2.0, and now this. The mission would be great, but at 5.4 pounds I'm afraid I would be in the same boat as I was with the XOP Edge. I don't like climbing with that much weight hanging off my saddle. The EDP also looks good, is light weight, sturdy, I should be able to comfortably turn around on it, etc, but enter the Magnum 2.0, and it seems to ring all the bells, but not much available on it and that price tag is steep. And now this Novix, which is close to the wingman in size, but over 1.5 pounds lighter.

Decisions, Decisions.....

At the forefront, the thin metal decking slats. I’ve used cast, machined, bent aluminum w/ tube cross members, bent aluminum topped w/ grate. Each has pros and cons. The way the Raider platform is put together is new to me, so I can only anticipate how it might compare.

Yeah, it can be daunting, because there’s a lot of good stuff to choose from. But I can’t really say what will be best for you. Nobody can.

Kind of like answering what climbing stick is best, it’s not really helpful. Better to look deeply into the pros and cons of the things and prioritize needs and wants and choose for oneself. After that exercise, it’s a matter of buy and try.

Hoping it works out perfect for you off the bat.

I’ve been waiting on the EWO 2.0’s too long….doesn’t appear that’s happening. I like my Tethrd, but I’m giving these a go.

I like the Fix. Pre-ordered it in March with the introductory pricing and had it in April, so pretty good there. It’s super solid when set. Comes in at a good weight, but not ultralight. Reliable, nicely finished. Good traction. Personally I wish they’d have made it slightly deeper, the way @srt_saddlehunter did his Ambush .5 mod. I prefer a bit more depth if possible, but if 12.5” deep works great for ya, it’s got a lot to offer.

Yeah for sure there's alot of personal preference that goes into it. And @BackSpasm mentioned the Fix. I think I had removed it from my short list for some reason or other, but now can't remember why.

I do hope the first one I pick works out. I wish I were a wealthy man, lol. I'd buy one of each and try them all, then just give away the ones I didn't like.
