2024 Gear thread

I’m jealous. Of the chamois hunt, not the boots, lol. I can only dream of such hunts.

I didn’t love the Meindl boots I tried. Their customer service is however top notch. Possibly best in class.

I think Lowa’s construction is a step above Meindl. I’m using Lathrop & Sons boots customized to me, which are really fantastic, but have a pair of Crispis that I got on the cheap and they are pretty great for what they are. I think Crispi compares well to Lowa. All great boots.
Pure curiosity here. How do those these other brands /boots compare to Keen? I don't even know if Keen is in the same league but I've got a pair of boots that've been nothing but excellent to me, and some shoes that are treating me right as well. I've definitely got a cheap gene or eleven-teen in me but I'll be darned if good footwear isn't worth the money

Keens are good daily wear boots, but no comparison at all to crispis. At least for me they fit like a glove and never have foot issues no matter how many miles I walk. The first set I got have over 250 miles on them and are still just as comfortable as the day I got them.

I have some Keens that were marketed for hunting, purchased 2008ish. They are 450g toe, 350g upper Keen Warm Dry. Those and a pair of rubber boots were all I needed for hunting MI. They were a push on the really cold days for sure, but I made due with them, even for ice fishing.

I think mountain boots start to shine on steeper terrain. Side hilling with the Keens was a problem. And though I could climb ok with them, mountain boots are far better at it.

Keens aren’t really in the same league as the top mountain boots constructionwise. Yet I still have mine in serviceable condition.

“Better” boots really shine when you develop foot/joint problems during your life, which can be from many different reasons, then anyone who never has.. will truly appreciate what it takes to make a great boot and understand why there are some that have no choice but to spend big $$$ on footwear, or else stay home and not participate in such outdoor activities like hunting and hiking..

I think they can also possibly help prevent an injury. They are more supportive compared to other styles for sure.

The stiff soles are a little odd when walking over big rocks and I feel a bit unsure at times but have never slipped.

I’m going to get the Crispi Shimek and see if a touch more flex suits me for eastern hills. They are 400g, which doubles up on what I have for those colder days.

As you well know I got it at introductory pricing. But it’s a $300 stand. That’s very clear from the folks at Nested.

Back in stock….$299.99

That was important to me. I got my foot sprained and if you had it once, it‘s more likely to happen again.
I chose the Lowas because of their lacing system. It was easier for me to get them tide to support my ankle.

The vibram soles on the Meindls and Lowa i had are a class of it own. I like their stiffness and their anti-slip.

The WEZEBV, pronounced Wheezy Bee Vee (Whisker Biscuit/EZV) is coming along. PSE Mach 30. Ordered my arrow components today. Once I get those done I will update speeds on the chrono. Luckily I'm at 30.5DL at 70lbs.

A whisker biscuit and ezv on a high tech carbon bow has got to be some sort of sacrilege.
This is why I am doing it. Mainly, it is for the zero fail options. No sight issues to worry about, no drop away issues to worry about. And the weight is comical when you pick it up.
