2024 Off-Season Getting/Staying In Shape Motivation Thread

I’ve always said no one is too busy to work out, it’s not a time problem it’s a prioritization problem. Don’t give all that time to work and school (other people) and not set some time aside for yourself. Always work on self first and everything else will fall in line, but it doesn’t work the other way around.

Yesterday was a 30 minute rowing session. Ended up at 6800 meters exactly, a couple hundred meters short of where I would have liked to finished. What's Cam say, nobody cares, work harder, lol.

Maannn that makes me regret selling my rower 2 months ago lol I used it a lot but the past year I don’t think I got on it 1 time.

Everyday I’ve been hand digging a small pond and I have a bunch of downed pine trees I’ve been bucking with a maul. Been a nice workout over these couple weeks. Maybe a month or 2 of work left.
Hand digging a pond? With a shovel? You know that have lake making kits, saw it on a progressive insurance commercial.

Been 10 days on plan so far. My outside workouts have been tough. On office days I’ve been getting up at 5 & hiking 2-3 miles with the pups ( headlamp) then again at lunch. Only in the office 2 days a week so the other 5 days I’m going to the gym for my second workout. Not loving it yet but feels good to put in the work I’ll feel a lot better a month from now…….

Took my girls ice skating for a few hrs again today. Going to call it cross training.

I got some blisters on the top of both pinky toes during yesterday's 5 miler, 99% sure its from wearing cheap cotton socks with a hem that runs right over the toes in that exact spot, so I think it's time to get some better socks. Currently debating between balegas and feetures based of some random Internet reviews, any of you other runners have a favorite pair of socks? I won't get toe socks, but looking for any other suggestions.

When I left my last job about 8yrs ago, I had the moth of Sept off. I had a pool put in at the end of August just before resigning. I spent a whole month building and back filling a retaining wall that was a total of 80’ long and 4’ high. All I used was a shovel, an ATV, a lawn dump trailer, and the dirt they pulled out of the hole for the pool. I built the wall out of 4x4’s and deck boards. It was the most labor intensive yet gratifying work I had done in a long time. I was in the best shape I had been in for a while, even though I was drinking a 18 pack a day, lol. The wall is still standing, and in great shape. I’m surprised with the amount of Natties that got drank while building it.

Nice! Yeah I’m working with a shovel and a wheelbarrow, and axes for the felling and bucking of the trees. My friends get on me all the time “ why don’t you use your chainsaw!?”, well I’m not pressed for time so don’t need the chainsaw, and I’ll use it when I can’t swing an axe anymore lol and on the digging my buddy standing there with a gut tells me to use his backhoe, no thanks I’ll use machinery when I absolutely need to. The body doesn’t slow down just bc you get old, the body slows down bc you let it slow down. Mechanical means are great but as long as I’m able bodied and not pressed for time machinery is out of the question. And also, you never really appreciate a chainsaw until you felled and bucked 20 + pine trees with an axe. Lol there’s a reason why I’m 35 and in better shape than anyone I personally know in my circle including most of my infantry company of youngins. Of course the current stock of kids coming in aren’t nothing to shake a stick at. It’s all about keeping moving, take the stairs instead of the elevator, walk everywhere on the property instead of using the 4wheeler etc… find the groove for you of good output vs recovery and stay in that lane and your body will reward you with a more mobile life. Idc to live to see 70 but I WIL be in good shape until the day I die. Pending anything out of my control like disease and stuff like that of course.

I hiked just short of 2.5 miles with the pups yesterday & then what I intended to be a quick ordeal wasn’t. I set the cardio timer on my watch & out an empty popup 28 on & went to pull saddle presets , my final ascent was 300’ but the clawing holding saplings kinda walk. Got over 500 cals in about an hour pulling 6 cameras & 4 platforms IMG_0104.jpegIMG_0105.jpeg

Hiked a few miles to get trail cameras. I'm still not intentionally exercising but life has me busy enough for my fitbit goals to be getting crushed. Too soon to call it but I'm nearing another wieght loss miles stone and target wieght. If I can hang out here for a few months and see how I feel I might try to stay here or lose a little more
