2025 Turkey Season

Nice one! And with the bow! Hiding in a blind or just using skill?
On this property I dont run and gun I like to bowhunt them to keep the pressure down as we have a lot of hunting pressure all around this piece. Since I don’t use a gun on this I do use a blind and put it up in only two or three locations at the most throughout the season. I carry everything in the morning in and set up then. Pack in pack out. It’s like deer hunting for turkeys. So no skill! Lol!!

Way to get it done with the bow. Freakin masochist :p
I heard just two faint gobbles along the ridge from just before first light until this tom and another opened up after I finally decided to gobble. Everything was lukewarm to my hen calling except two other hens which came in almost immediately after fly down. They were definitely not gobbling much at all this morning. At about 7:15 I cackled then yelped then gobbled three times and within three minutes I heard him gobble he was 60 yards away closing in. After he gobbled, another tom gobbled to the back of my setup. This one decided to come in but he didn’t charge right in, he walked past me just out of bow range stopped and was staring at the decoys. I yelped and gobbled again, he strutted then came in but still somewhat pensive.

The spitfire went right through him. He collapsed writhin 35 yards. He moved his fan a couple of times and then he was still. I took his hip out and severed the base of his leg from his pelvis.

I think I used up all my luck for the next few years this turkey season. I killed 3 in MS and got to watch friends shoot another 4 all on different hunts. Headed out of state and knocked down 5 on a week long trip and got to watch my friends whack 5 more.

REALLY Nice!

One of my most memorable hunts was calling one through the fog that was coming out of the hollow on the side of the field JUST LIKE WHAT YOUR PICTURE SHOWS!!!!

Thank you for prompting me to re-live the hunt and CONGRATULATIONS !!!!

Congrats on the great season!!

Daughter has prom this weekend and my wife works but I'm hoping to get some run N' gun on public at some point. We shall see.

Im gonna take a first half hearted attempt at it in the morning. I have no clue where to find a public turkey at the moment here so I am going to double down. Need to find some new spots with better habitat for fall, got a preview of the general area going on a fishing trip through there yesterday. Have a few picked out on onx, gonna go walk that and if a turkey is dumb enough to gobble Ill hunt him. At the very least it wont be a 4am wakeup for nothing.

Got out before work Wednesday. Had a Tom and hen pitch down off roost 100 yds in front of us. Called the hen in to 30 yds while the Tom walked off and disappeared in the other direction by himself. Guess he got tired of listening to the hen complain all night and wanted some quiet time?

Probably won’t get out this weekend, trying to finish up wiring my cabin. I have a fishing trip planned next weekend and promised my wife the cabin would be done by Memorial Day weekend. Running out of time.

Laughing at the complaining hen thing not the complaining wife thing. :sunglasses:

Finished up my week at turkey camp in Missouri and had one of the greatest weeks turkey hunting ever. I heard no less than 1000 gobbles in the 6 days in the woods and one was serenading me this morning as I packed to head to the airport. I shot a bird on Sunday after an epic hunt from earlier post and called a bird for a friend of mine Wednesday morning. IMG_8662.jpegIMG_8664.jpegWednesday midday turned into a coyote hunt while a gobbler was barreling down a ridge coming on a string fast. Soon as I saw the coyote I never thought about the bird again. He caught a full 2 1/4 oz of tss at 14 yards. IMG_8660.jpeg
Thursday was kinda slow but I had enough action to keep me interested. Slipped the whole farm while keeping tabs on a gobbling bird that was in an unkillable area. Did find a dead head, shed, and a patch of wild ramps. I had no idea that they grew in Missouri. Dug enough to put in some fried taters. Taste from home from many years ago. Friday morning broke cool and clear at 45*. By the time I got to the ridge birds were burning the trees up. I slipped into where I needed to be on Monday but couldn’t get him to break and got settled. The one I was calling to pitched out and was following the plan to a T when 50 yards to my left on my side of the ridge one roared in my ear. Couple feeding whines and I could hear him drumming. Has strutted into view at around 22 yards and started gobbling every breath. I took a minute to let him do his spring ritual before letting the warhammer bark. What a way to close out a week of good hunting, good food and great friends.

Thank you @woodsdog2. Been fortunate enough to meet some really great guys that have since extended me open invitation to their farms out there. I let a few long beards pass in the tilled ground when I could see they were short spurred. 2 year olds that gobbled till they couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t have hand picked weather any better either and the Strut was alive and well in that area. I’m back in Florida now trying to work out how to own a little chunk of ground out there. I’ll get there on day sooner than later
