2TC tether slack and fall risk

do people advance their tether with a small forked stick?
Most people use "tether handles" of various designs(para cord loops, s binders, purpose designed 3d printed ones, whatever you have on hand can be made to work), editing this to add if you have a rappell rope and a push pole you could set your tether considerably higher and eliminate a few top tether moves

As far as linesman belt use to prevent kick out, I think you would have to advance the belt, stand in your footloop, remove slack from the belt and then advance the tether to have any positive effect on kick out, but I've never deployed one while 2TC. That would likely double or even triple my time standing in the footloop, which is the part I try to minimize in my system.

As stated below, most people use some form of loop, handle or webbing style keeper that allows them to pull up the rope without their fingers being under the pinch point of the tether. And as to your other question, I don’t think it will eliminate your leg strap from kicking out altogether. But it will help you be more stable while standing and advancing your top tether as well as slowing any fall that might occur from a kick out.

A stiff top tether also helps with keeping your fingers out from under the rope. You can pinch the rope at the loop and give yourself slack and work it up without having to get your fingers under the rope. You have to fight a soft top tether more to get it up the tree.

That all makes sense. I learned to climb from arborists and so I default to using a lineman’s belt (buckstrap) more often than not.
