.350 legend ballistics question

With the passing of Illinois HB 4386 and going to the senate, I think I've narrowed down my choice of my next weapon as a .350 legend as a single shot rifle. I priced the current ammo supply as well as seeing the max range of 250+ yards. I'm currently looking at the CVA .350 as it is less than 400.00 but I'd like to find a scope/gun combo. So a couple of my questions:
1. I'd like to find a .350 legend single shot with a scope for under 550.00. Anyone have any leads?
2. Real world experience from others who shoot a .350 legend and especially from those who have a single shot.

Here in Illinois, with my mossberg 695 12 guage...my max effective round with my lightfield slugs are right at 125-150 yards. I'm also considering getting the savage 220 and pair it with a remington slug...but again I do not have the real world experience with this platform.

I own a Ruger American Ranch in 350. It’s not a single shot, but the gun shoots amazing. 16 inch barrel, I sight in 2 inches high at 100, I’m hitting 5-6 inches low at 200. That’s with a 16 inch barrel so maybe a longer barrel would improve that.

I have a vortex diamondback 4-12 with a hash marked reticle. I know my holds out to 200.

about the round itself: I’m shooting Winchester Deer SeasonXP 150gr. verry little recoil, groups are amazing. I did just buy some 180 grain but haven’t shot it yet.

I did have a poorly placed shot this year
(completely on me) I hit the buck across the chest just grazing him, after a lengthy track job he walked away all healed up. It took him off of his feet so the energy is there.

I live the round but where I hunt it’s very limited on spots where I can take long pokes. It’s a great round 200 and in.

I was stationed in IL until last year and have used a 350 for hunting since I left, and used a 220 while in IL. The 220 with the Remington slugs is a monster, only issue is finding ammo. Last count I was spending around $5 a round with my 220. 350 is much more economical. I bought 8 boxes of ammo last year for $17 a box at WalMart. I have the CMMG Resolute 350, and the round is built for deer. With the Winchester Deer Season XP 150s 200 yd accuracy is 1/2-3/4“. I have only killed one sika deer with it (‘‘twas a rough season), but at 180 yards it crushed both lungs, and souped the heart. She made it 30 yards before stopping, and I watched blood dumping outta her mouth/nose from the stand. I topped the gun with a 2-7 x 40 Leupold VX and it is a great combo. Enough gun without being overkill. I’d trust it out to 250 easily, wouldn’t go any further. Good thing IMO is that I shot her off my knees (feet on seat, knees up) and there isn’t enough recoil to even lose the deer post shot. Had the scope on her all the way just in case. Henry makes a 350 single shot that is very comfortable as well. I’d recommend a 350 over the 220 IMO. If there are any other questions let me know.

If you can find a single-shot in .357, you can ream it out to .357 Max, or .350 Legend, which are essentially ballistic twins. IIRC the bore diameter is a few thousandths apart. MDWS has a .357 AR Max load data thread at https://mdws.forumchitchat.com/post/357ar-load-data-thread-9599562 this was a wildcat round before the Legend was announced, and is very close ballistics.

Careful shopping should find you a used NEF/H&R in .357. Alternatively you can piece together a TC Contender. Going to be tough to keep it under $550 - especially with a scope worth using - but you won't regret a TC.

If you find a CVA you like, it's probably easier to pair it with a scope than find a rifle + scope package you'll be happy with. Package scopes are pretty much uniformly disappointing, they're the cheapest thing the distributor can toss on there that won't get returned by angry and disappointed hunters. I'm quite happy with the Nikon 2-7 shotgun scope on my .444 single shot, and the Burris. fixed-4 on pretty much everything else I hunt with. The Weaver K4 would also work for you. I've also heard good things about Hawke glass, but never shot it myself.

I'm looking at getting either the cva scout in .350 or the Henry and pairing with a Leupold .350 legend scope with CDS.

Fyi....I just put together a 350lgnd AR for not much more than what u wanting to spend.
I can't help with ballistics cause I ain't shot it yet but just fyi on the rifle side of things....the upper, lower, and magazine was well within ur budget....

I'd love to, but I already built a 5.56 AR...but since I have the lower...wouldn't I be able to buy the upper receiver and switch them uppers out? Also, Illinois requires the centerfire and straight wall rounds to single shot. I'd need a sled of some sort to fit in my lower receiver to make the 350 single shot.

You can buy just an upper and swap. But you would probably also need a different mag for the 350

Ok...next question. where would be a good online vender to get an upper and mag to make it single shot? Every gun store in my area that I've called does not have anything in stock.

An AR single shot, not sure I’ve seen that one. If it was me and I needed a single shot and it was only for this purpose I would go with a previous post. Cva scout or Henry best bang for the buck. Contender or encore would be a few hundred dollars out of the range and if you don’t want or need to switch barrels proabbaly not worth it.

I'm also looking at the 350. Does anyone have experience with it on hogs?

With the AR rifle as a single shot rifle, you have to have a bob sled in the magazine well so that it is only single shot.

If I remember correctly, there is (or was) a stage in NRA Hi-Power competition that involved single-loading through the ejection port. Competitors had special dummy mags with a tray instead of feed lips. If you have a malfunctioning mag (and let's face it, anyone with an AR will have some eventually) you could probably gut it and mod the feel lips with JB Weld or something.

I do not have the link -- but there is something on the net that shows that as long as you do not have a mag on your person -- you are fine. you do not need a bob sled. I'll see if I can find that link

doh' -- the 300 blackout. you can use that in a pistol round (I hear some people are doing that). But that round is, I think, built on AR platforms, so if HB4386 passed you can build an AR platform rifle.

thx

Here you go.

I am sure this will apply to the rifle (as it does the pistol). so, no bob sled
