I wish I could "Like" this more than once. Great post! Its best to srart them out on open sights
it gets some hate, but the 6.5CM really is a sweet caliber for deer and similar-sized game, especially if you aren't a fan of recoil and don't like muzzle brakes
I hate the 6.5 CM because the 6.5 Prc is what the CM should have been originally. If George Gardner had developed the PRC in 2006 instead of 2013 the CM wouldn’t even be a thought.
True, after you tore into the 6.5CMTo each his own. That’s why there are so many calibers.

I hate the 6.5 CM because the 6.5 Prc is what the CM should have been originally. If George Gardner had developed the PRC in 2006 instead of 2013 the CM wouldn’t even be a thought. The PRC is a straight up bad arse rifle. I’ve set up 3 rifles for western hunting. A Model 70 30-06, a Savage 110 7mag, and a Patriot 6.5PRC.
The 6.5 PRC is by far the most accurate. If I’m shooting off of a Sled I can clover leaf at 200. The 7mag and 06 shoot tight, but not that tight. I’ve got my 6.5 PRC shooting close to 3300 with hand loads, and you can’t touch that with a CM. The PRC’s recoil is only about 3lbs more. With the exception of ammo pricing and availability, why would anyone want a CM over a PRC?
The same goes for the 6mm ARC over the 243. Why would you just not buy a 243 with a tighter twist and shoot the same bullets as the ARC, at a faster speed?
For those of you that worry about burning up barrels, they are disposable items. Burn em up and buy a new one. You can get a new barrel for what 2 doz arrows cost.
Ok I’m off my soap box now.

I vote for the 6.5 CM…I have been down the big caliber road and its just a waste of time and money for me.
6.5 CM is at every store that sells ammo, and I think my son who is seven can handle the 6.5 cm over bigger calibers . Just because i can easily handle the magnum caliber’s doesn’t mean that would be a good offering for my kids or wife if something were to happen to me.
So with that I’ll stick with my Barrett Fieldcraft special edition 6.5cm.
In own a couple Swedes and you are correct. What little factory ammunition you find is so anemic that it’s not worth the price. I have enough components to last many many years to reload for them and with the one in a modern action it can be made to eat the 6.5creed alive, but at the end of the day I could walk into any sporting store and grab a box of great match hunting ammo for the creed and satisfy 100% of my deer hunting needs.Yeah, if there is a current glut of ammo for it that certainly makes a case for it. Most folks who choose the 6.5 Swede and the 257 Roberts or 7x57 Mauser, 260 etc. reload and have stocked up on those cartridges and components for reloading. Will it be available in that quantity 5 or 10 years down the line? Don't know, but if I did buy one, I would commit to purchasing enough cartridges to last a lifetime or at the least reloading dies, powder, components to last the same amount of time.
So this article is actually about 5 must own cartridges, not guns. That’s just piss poor writing.
