A Knaider Tip

I have incorporated the Treesqueeze and have been trying it using the swaider/insider technique and being able to slide it up as I am stepping up is a big plus. The rigid design allows you to advance your linesman/treesqueeze combo upwards while maintaining good control and gives you a way to hold the tree. It gives me peace of mind to know that in the event that something gives way the cinching action will stop my downward motion.

I have been experimenting using my New Tribe Onyx saddle right now until my Mantis gets here .

We are no longer allowed to free climb or hitchhike. we have to use buck squeeze or similar fall protection. Makes it safe but sometimes it makes climbing a nightmare..

what do you do when you encounter a branch you need to go around when you are utilizing the squeeze?

Look close at the video.Guy is using a Buckqueeze But is not adjusted properly. He has space between his inner rope and the pole.If it does not have some curvature in this webbing or rope depending on which you got.You gonna slide awhile before it catches if it does at all and trust me splinters from a pole suck.
Kyler You use lineman’s belt as a secondary safety.Climb up to the limb Place lineman’s OVER the limb Slack treesqueeze Transfer it up and over the limb bringing squeeze up on the inside of your lineman’s Pull yourself up into your squeeze Remove your lineman’s belt and continue your climb.Never unsafetied if done properly.Just do it in reverse on the way down still keeping your lineman’s belt OVER the limb.Takes way longer to tell you than to execute with practice.I may add a treesqueeze to my gear.Infinately safer than a lineman’s belt alone and for a group of guys who are justifiably anal about attatchment from the ground up It is most definitely the best option.

What's a man got to do to get you to do a video of the execution? I've got one sitting on the desk here just begging to be used... Show me the way!

You use a regular lineman strap over the obstacle climb up and put the bucksqueeze or whatever friction device you are using above the obstacle readjust and continue on!

Today I was in between rains doing some experimentation-I use my Treesqueeze when ascending (swaider/knaider) set my platfrorm, then run a drt system through the rings of the Treesqueeze (this acts as my tether/descending unit) take slack out of tether remove linesmans belt/lanyard . When done you can rappel down on the system and retrieve the line(Treesqueeze acts as a retrievable friction saver). So far so god.

I would love some more info on how to set this up! I have the tree squeeze and plan to start using spikes. I know there has to be some easy way to implement the tree squeeze to rappel down but I can't find any info on it. I have no experience with spikes, the tree squeeze, or rappelling so I need any info in the most simplest terms. ;-)

Let's see some pics!

I'll see if I can get some pics if the rain ever stops. I figured since the Treesqeeze acts a ring and ring friction saver and is right in front of you after ascending why not use it as my tether-just trying to streamline my system. Before I was carrying my rappelling system separately but now it is deployed once at the top.

Yup, like was already said, I’d like to see it. Pretty sure I know what your doing here. Sounds like a great idea. I’ve been thinking about how nice it would be to rappel and take the steps off on the way down rather then k/s down. Also, aren’t you using a diy treesqueeze?

So how do you have the treesqueeze above the next step you set in the k/s system. I assume your setting the steps somewhere around head height? So are you just loosening your linesman to get the treesqueeze above your head and then setting the step below the squeeze?

I’m always interested in making my setup safer and have been thinking about putting a diy squeeze together. Just trying to visualize how it’ll work on the climb with k/s.

This is why I keep trying new methods but ultimately come back to my modified heliums with one moveable aider.... Since I am in a new to me tree about 70% of the time, I have to have a system that works no matter what tree I need to climb. And attaching them to my pack vertically they don't hang up on brush.

Dave, What kind of aider are you using and how are you moving it up? Thanks!

Good read guys. I'll have to remember to lean back to drive my weight into the foot that's against the tree. That might of been the issue I had with kick out on the 5 step aider I used. I use the single movable aider on my sticks like Dave, no issue with kicking out so far. Having the stick to pull yourself up helps as well. Gonna use the S/K on my sticks as I really like them.
