So has anyone incorporated a way to attach a tether to the back of a saddle? I know some use a rock climbing harness, but I was the thinking the new Tethrd or Kite with a way to attach a tether on the back of some shoulder straps would be cool. I’m wanting to use one harness for both saddle hunting and treestand hunting. Anybody done this or have any ideas?

Can't really see why or how that would work.

You can hunt with a front tether out of a stand, doesn't get in the way near as much as you'd think. I've done it for years out of an RC harness. As some like to brag I was doing it before it was cool.

You can do that with a saddle also. There are however some materials considerations and of course you are using it off-label. You have to know what fall factor is and how to minimize it. No way I would use an Amsteel/dyneema bridge in that manner.

Blasphemy! Just having fun, but seriously, the dynamics of a fall from a traditional stand connected to the back of the harness versus the front swing in a saddle slip are so different, a single product to handle both is not practical in general. The add ons to a saddle to handle a full fall is also unwanted by most due to the added bulk and weight it would take to handle it. Not saying it couldn't be done, but better served by 2 separate products.

Last season I got rid of my full body harness and went to a rock climbing harness. I loved it and actually tried saddle hunting in a RCH. It was comfortable for about 30 minutes...but it got me thinking that this might be the way to go. As far as the harness goes...I just put my tether on at my waist and cinched it down. I even put it at my head and tightened it down...I literally could sleep in the stand and not worry about falling out...or seeing deer for that matter.

Somebody’s had to of done something with a back tether on like a trophy line with shoulder straps or something...

I've been using a RCH in a treestand for probably 18 years. only way to go. If I fall, self rescue is easier, and unless you wear a helmet in your stand(I dont :) I"d much rather have my hands in front of me. I"ve taken huge whippers in a RCH when I used to climb a ton and am very comfortable wiht the safety of it over the whole body's I have worn even good industrial harnesses....

If given a choice, I would prefer hooking up in front, evertime. View attachment 10742

Add self rescue straps to the sides of this set up above or you can use a rescue FAS that has a rear connection at the middle of your back, side connections for a lineman's belt and a front positioning D ring. If you don't mind the weight and all of the really noisy metal connections all over this thing. I say no.

+1 on the RC harness. Never understood the shoulder harness, half the time it gets in the way of your draw, or limits your vision, or doesn't allow you to turn around, plus in the event of a fall it leaves you hanging in a way that is difficult to recover from, with the tether above and behind your back, where you can't reach or pull on it.
I have trusted my life thousands of times and taken huge falls in my RC harness while rock climbing, and have complete trust in it.
It also allows to you change your top layers without messing with your harness, weighs less than a shoulder rig, and can be used with a sit-drag or fleece saddle for a light, cheap and bomb proof system.
Whats not to like?
Sorry for the hosing, no disrespect intended.

So why can't you sit in A treestand with a saddle attached to the front? Seems the same as a rock climbing harness. The front connection is slightly different, but I'm sure there are many different ways to fine tune that. I have a saddle on the way and plan to hunt both from a stand and from the saddle. I don't want to carry extra gear.

Honestly, not growing up around hunting and only getting into it later in life, I didn't even know you could use a RCH until I found out about hunting from a saddle. Thought the only method available was the harness that came with my ladder stands. Using a RCH for hunting... yep, yall are awesome.

RCH is the only way to go IMO. I use all my old FBH as webbing resources for BSI (brainstorming ideas). :tearsofjoy:
