Is it possible? Or safe ?
I just saw a picture of a cable aider and I think I couldbolt it to a step. I have a drilled step.. am I crazy to think this will
Work

If u bolted an aider out on the end of something like a squirrel step I think that is maybe to much leverage and the top of the step will pull away from the tree making it unstable..... Just looping an aider over a step were the load is placed on the step closer to the trunk I don't see any issues.... Having the step loaded on the tip makes the heel a fulcrum point

If u drilled and tapped the body of the step that is against the trunk it should be good but I think the cable aider will be a plain to get u foot in....I could be totally wrong but playing it thru in my head those are the issues I foresee right away

I'd think the aider needs more space from the tree to be able to effectively fit your foot I it too

@DanO are u at liberty to tell us the alloy and heat treat so we can know if we threaded a squirrel step the threads aren't gonna strip out instantly? I totally get it if u don't wanna say

I thinks a longer multi step aider is better for this kinda stuff....a single step, it's right against the trunk, no matter what....with a multi step u just grab the aider with ur hand and pull it away from the trunk to get ur first foot in.....once ur first foot is in, toeing into the trunk keeps the rest of the steps spaced off the trunk

When I use bolts, I use an aider. As soon as someone comes up with an efficient way to tightly secure an aluminum step to a tree without a buckle, I'll switch to using squirrel steps and an aider.

But having a single step length aider attached to a step isn't going to work well. You're putting your feet directly under each other and it will be near impossible to position your body to the side to be able to turn your foot onto the step. It will be facing directly at you. Stepping on a step with your toe facing the tree is asking for an accident.

Somewhere I seen a cable aider that was rigid enough to be bent out from the tree, that would probably work

Kyler your on your something I tried last night and feet are underneath each other

Try the method @NMSbowhunter linked the video above. I am doing this with Treehopper steps. With 6 steps I can get 12 steps + 2 more to my platform. I made a better aider.

6061 T6 Aluminum. We thought about marketing a SquirrelStep with an aider connection off the end. We haven't tested that but I could test it this week.
