How can I keep my aider from being so close to the tree? It makes it difficult to get my
Foot in.
Change the stand offs?

When you step into your first step on the aider, step with you foot further in the aider. Then it was hold the aider further away from the tree for the next step.

One-step moveable??? Cinch it to your boot.
My thought as well.

now if OP is hanging it off the bottom step and using for one sticking it probably fits the description of “fixed” aider better.

i would add that even though paracord may be rated for “550 pounds” I would not us it for an aider. Not abraision resistant enough and anyway a factor of 2-3 working load vs breaking strength is not good enough for me. I prefer webbing for aiders and find them more comfortable too. I also think it might help getting the foot in since the webbing will have a bit more firmness.

I always wear snakeboots and I cannot ever get my foot into an aider. My foot bumps the rope and it will push against the tree every time. The loop was very wide and supported open with a fiberglass rod. I gave up on aiders.

My “knaider” and “swaider” for reference. Made for climbing stick steps. Haven’t really tried them with 1stick. But maybe they work.

You can climb the low side of the tree if it’s leaning but that presents a new set of challenges. I’d seriously consider making an aider out something besides paracord…….I’d never even fathom standing on it after the first move of the stick. Do you have a piece of hose or something on it for a step? If not, id start there. I’m faced with the same issues when I’m on the high side of the tree. I use my toe and push it out to the side to help get my foot in there, then bring it back to the tree and step as straight up as possible.

Yes there is a small piece of hose. I’d like a 3 step out of webbing
