Air rifle recommendation

.22. Got a Hatsan 95 in the mail the other day. Just cleaned it today. We'll see how it goes tomorrow!
nice, so far I've seen a heck of a lot more squirrels than deer, and my kids (and I) really want to eat something I've harvested so may be following in your footsteps shortly.

After an hour the pressure had dropped from 2000 psi to 1500 psi. Apparently this is a common problem. I will see if I can find the leak. Just shooting around the house and with a scuba tank, this would be a minor issue. If I wanted to go hunting all day on one fill it would not be good.
I dry fired it a few more times in the basement and the puppy upstairs didn't make a peep. The trigger feels OK with a bit of creep. I was expecting much worse. Many people said it may need more teflon tape at the fill fitting or the gauge. I like to tinker so I will do that.
I finally got the replacement fill valve after the USPS delays. I think the valve went for a trip around the country. The new valve is different and seems to be much better quality than the original. I filled it yesterday and the air pressure needle was in the same spot today. I have to sight it in.

@Red Beard you don't have anything new or time- consuming going on recently :tearsofjoy: have you had a chance to test your hatsan out? and did you get the regular spring or vortex gas spring (and if vortex, QE or no?)

@bj139 i wish there was a PCP gun that would work on CO2/ welding gas. i've got those tanks already but understand it's not stable/ reccomended for air PCP guns. looking forward to hearing more about how yours works with the new valve as well.

I thought I remembered reading about how the Maximus can use CO2.
I have to set up a target out back and sight it in with the scope I mounted. It is fairly loud and one of my neighbors might complain. A single shot at a squirrel would be unnoticed but multiple shots might.

Hahaha! Yeah I know, right? :D

I did get to play around with my new non-QE vortex model last weekend and here's what I can say about it so far...

1. Didn't bother mounting the Centerpoint that came with the package because the reviews on it were terrible. Instead, I bought a Bug Buster. Took me a bit but I finally got it somewhat zeroed.

2. It has fired every time I pulled the trigger. I spent the extra $10 to have Pyramyd do a 10 pellet test and I think it was money well spent (read a few accounts of air guns not firing straight out of the box). The first few shots were loud as expected. After about 5 shots it quieted down considerably.

3. Also, the thing is fairly heavy. Knew this going in though.

Hopefully I'll be able to test it out a bit more soon.

Kudos to those that can. Love to shoot one though.
Probably like owning a Rolex or a Porsche.

I filled the old bird feeder on the ground out back with sunflower seeds. It was empty. I also put up an old political sign in the yard for sighting in purposes. My little Shetland Sheepdog puppy has made the squirrels quite skittish out back when he got away a few times and tried to catch them at a high rate of speed. I should just let him catch one to break him of the habit of chasing them. I am training the squirrels to ignore the window going up by moving it up and down a few times a day while they are there. Eventually they just keep eating and ignore it.

So, how's the nutterbusting going? :^)

Imho any of the gammo’s i kill 100’s of tree rats every year with mine. Had it around 10 years now. Oiling is important

I see a squirrel most everyday but I haven't had the urge to shoot yet. If I get one one I will probably be bringing fleas into the house. In the past, I think I stuffed one into a plastic bag outside and put it in the freezer for a few hours to get the skin off while the fleas are still dormant without them jumping everywhere. It has happened before.
I mounted a scope on the rifle and it shot very low. I have the adjustment all the way over and it is still shooting about an inch low at 10 yards. I can compensate for now. I am not sure how to get it adjusted higher. I put a piece of paper under the rear ring with some lower rings I had to make it more centered but switched to higher rings without the paper. The barrel is very thin so a paper shim at the barrel band might be better. I didn't tighten the scope excessively especially with the paper shim.
