I saw a young one of those about a month ago in SE Oklahoma.

I hate snakes...

I’ve been seeing more snakes then usual lately while out in the woods. A good pair of snake boots might be a wise investment

I use these:

https://www.snakeprotection.com/razer-snake-gaiters

A bit expensive but they work well and give me piece of mind.

I had no worries walking by that cottonmouth I saw a month ago, though I admit I didn’t waste any time getting past.:tonguewink:

They look good. I’ve got a pair of the Cabellas snake boots and feel the same way while hiking in the woods

Not sure why, but I despise those things!

Deuteronomy 32:33 Their wine is the venom of serpents,
the deadly poison of cobras.

If I had to deal with that, I would have joined a drone hunting forum!!

That thing reminds me of the time I spent in the S. Alabama swamps. Moccasins are the only snake I have ever encountered that will actually pick a fight, over yielding to you. I've seen a total of ONE, here in Missouri. I kinda like it like that.

We gottem here in Arkansas too. As wet as it’s been this year they have increased their hunting territory. Nasty smelling and extremely aggressive. Kill em all I say!

Where the skys are so blue!
Cottonmouths have a mean reputation, but but I've seen them make love more than I've seen them make war. Seen 3 separate, breeding pairs. Strange event to witness.

I've seen 0 unprovoked aggressions. Usually gotta toss a stick at one to make them pose so I can regale tenderfoots with tales of my escapades. Most are anxious to have an appointment elsewhere when I walk/paddle/belly-crawl-with-a-knife-in-my-mouth by. ;)

That being said, be safe out there! Stuff happens!

I’ve been chased all over the dang place by them in early spring while I’m bowfishing. In areas with high populations, you’d need one guy in the boat with a 410 to cover your back.

I always heard they were so aggressive that early because they hadn’t shed yet and their eyes were somewhat opaque, making it hard for them to see. Don’t know if there’s any truth to that, but that’s always the most aggressive time of year.

Just like Indiana Jones, I'd rather have the germans after me than be thrown in a snake pit.
