Alternative to Paul Craves Tree Squeeze

Nice video. I wonder if a floating carabiner clipped to both sides of the linesman's belt would work?
 
Probably could, I think thats what Paul does. It woud be nice if it was adjustable so you could tighten for different sized trees. Maybe something with a cam jam?
