Am I a genius, or just stupid...

I've been racking my brain on trying to find a way to girth hitch both sides of sit drag bridge with my 8mm rope, and I think I figured it out, but what some second opinions before trying it. What I did was tie a monkey fist at each end, double it over pass both ends through the loop. On the the other side, I doubled it over passed the monkey fist through the loop. Once weight is applied, it tightens up and cinches up on the fist, essentially creating a knot-less girth hitch.

Let me hear your thoughts. You will not hurt my feelings if you believe you believe this to be dumb, but I pulled as hard as I could on it, and it was so tight I could barely get it undone after.

Pretty clever. My concern would be the knot loosening up if you took weight off of the saddle and the monkey fist slipping through. I would definitely make sure you were backed up by connecting your tether to an RCH.

I always hook onto my RCH first thing as soon as I get to height, before stepping into my platform. So I should never have weight on the bridge without being backed up. I was surprised though at how tight it remained after taking pulling on it. I really had to work it to get it loose.

You're post did give me a couple ideas though. You could do the same thing except, instead of using two monkey fist's you could double the length of the rope and tie the two tag ends together with a double fisherman's knot near the bridge loop. You would have a double bridge but, both sides would be girth hitched. You could also do the same thing with amsteel but connect the two tag ends together like a continuous loop.

I'm not at all an expert in safety, so take this fwiw. But that freaks me out unless you were ALWAYS backed up with minimal slack in your backup. It reminds me of tying a d-loop on a bowstring. Safe almost always, but they can come undone.

Pictures were too big to fit in one reply. I would tie the girth hitched overhand on a bight like I showed in the pics before I tried your stopper knot method.

I missed the fact that this was a sit drag backed up with a harness...so I feel way better about it. Carry on.

Just tie an overhand loop on one side then on the other take your tag end and make an overhand knot then pass through your saddle loop then follow through your overhand knot following the knot to make another overhand loop.
