Ameristeps w/ knaider swaider

The video was fine. She was just letting you know that you were focusing on something else on her time and appeared to be having more fun than her. I’m toying with this idea but just using the knaider no swaider. @rakbowhunter you should look into these screamers https://www.rockandsnow.com/21338/Y...MIyZ2Oqv6z5gIVBYzICh3JPgqZEAQYBiABEgK_ZfD_BwE

@kyler1945 toyed with them some this year and may be able to say which he found to be the most compact and user friendly for our uses.
When you step up onto the step you only have single point of contact with a 5+ foot fall before you hit the end of your rope. You’re not as big as some of us but that kind of fall would suck.

Just an update. I’ve been using the knaider only on this setup and I’ve added another sling hitched to my ROS. I can still get 20’ and change and it cuts my climb time since I don’t have to adjust tether up the tree. LB only.

Also makes descent easier for me.

I know I’m late to this thread, but I’ve got 10 ameristep that I’m using as my climbing system, but hanging 10 steps gets old even though they are lighter than my previous stick set.

So my big concern here is the amount of slack in the tether at times. Is there any reason this method doesn’t work climbing with the Lineman’s belt?

I felt more safe with the tether. Probably safest to use both though. I found that this method required fairly straight typical trees. Otherwise I was swinging around too much. Have switched back to sticks.

Thanks, maybe I need to invest in some lighter sticks. My previous sticks weighed close to 12lbs for 3 sticks.

My biggest gripe with sticks was the packability, not so much the weight. I hate having to set my pack down, untie everything, and have hanging sticks off my side while I climb. Since then, several products have started becoming available to help with that ( fang system) . I would love to be able to strap my platform to my backpack, and then be able to attach my sticks to the platform after that. I can slide sticks off as I go up.

I climbed similar to this for a season. I found it more stable using knaider only and LB. I did use tether on some of the more difficult trees. Always rappelled down. 4 or 5 steps and also knaidered onto my ring of steps using the sling setup like each step.

Rappelling down was a big plus for this setup. @iamcorey , what are you using now?

I am looking at buying some APIs off bass pro and cutting them down to 18" or even less and adding some wire aiders from EWO to them. Should be around 2lbs per stick.
