Another safety reminder!

Ugh. I hope you heal ok. Cutting up in there is definitely a good chance for something to go wrong.

Congrats on a nice buck.

Thanks all for the congrats and well wishes.

I just left the hand surgeon. I have surgery on Tuesday. Its a local anesthetic only and he said its real easy. 1 month in a splint though. I think I'll still be able to hunt (I use a xbow and I can hold it with no real problem). I'll probably stick to pre-sets while the splint is on so I don't get into any hairy climbing situations. Luckily, I spent this offseason setting up about 20 pre-sets on various properties. Who knows...maybe I'll even hunt from the ground a bit.

Ok I take back the nice things I said to you. Hunt from the ground... really? You should be banned from the site for that comment

Congrats on the nice buck. Sorry to hear about the mishap though. Praying for a full and speedy recovery from the surgery.

Thought of this thread halfway through field dressing a doe today...I never even brought my knife past the diaphragm of the deer. Once I got into the chest cavity I just ripped everything out with my hands and barely touched my knife again until time to take the tenderloins out.

I use a gut hook for everything inside the chest cavity. It leaves a small piece of diaphragm but only about 1/4" and it's pretty easy to stay away from the cutting edge. Sometimes I have to wiggle a bit on the esophagus but it is still pretty easy.

ill be relaxing thru the October lull i guess.....but i should catch part of the rut and late season. ill be typing 1 handed and giving a perpetual thumbs up for 4 weeks....punishment for being a bonehead
Hoping for a speedy recovery for you. Good Luck!

Prayers for healing. I had a work related dumb moment and it resulted in contact with a 25,000 rpm Borozon grinding wheel severing several tendons on the back of my hand. The surgeon was able to reconnect 2 of them but had to splice one for the index finger into the thumb tendon. Everything works but I have half of a right hand that's really easy to get cold and hard to warm up. Just a heads up for hunting, you may need a muff. I hope the rest of your season makes up for this. Good Hunting!
