Been trying to go rifleless the past two years. Shot a few pigs with the 10mm and a few deer with the 44 one with the 460. Goals this year pig with the 500jrh and another buck with the Stealth Hunter 44 mag and give the squirrels a try with 22 pistol with a red dot.

I’m no diehard handgun hunter but I’ve killed deer with my super black hawk 44 and my tc contender. The contender is amazing I have a 7mm tcu barrel for it with a Leupold 2 power, anything inside 100 yards is in trouble. I had to shoot the ruger a lot to be proficient with it but the scoped contender is way simpler.

Would love to be but don’t own a handgun for this purpose yet. One day.. Still waiting on my father in law to sell me his single action 44 Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter. Love that revolver!

I carry a 10mm Glock with extended barrel and Trijicon RMR when I rifle hunt in Maine just in case something comes within range. In MA where I bowhunt, you can't carry a sidearm during any hunting here. One implement. MA sucks. Can't have two implements, so not even a 38 or 9mm for 2 legged beasts for self defense.

I did a lot when I was living somewhere I could really practice. I’ve killed with the cva optima pistol the last couple years because it’s so easy to shoot but haven’t hunted with a wheel gun in a couple years. The jrh is a fine round. I really think saddle hunting lends itself well to the use of handguns.

Love my 44mag! Built a hand warmer big enough to set both hands and gun in comfortably. I put an adjustable strap on it so I can carry around my neck walking or clip it to my tether carabiner. I made it from an old Carhartt vest. Not pretty but works awesome!

Only got to carry it twice last year during gun season. I had full intentions of taking a doe with it during the last weekend, but wife came down with the flu. I had to cut my hunt short to take care of the little one, so I have only shot paper targets and empty cans with it thus far.

That sucks they take away your right to self defense while hunting. Not a huge surprise I guess since you’re so close to the Capitol Hill action there though.

I just picked up a S&W model 69 combat magnum 44 to carry during rifle season and early bear, I’m left handed and never had a real holster before so I ordered my first, Diamond D guides choice, I can’t wait for it to come in!

In the model 69 I would find a mild load like 240 grain xtp at about 1200 FPS.

Full house loads are a handful in the 69
Sounds about right, it’s ported but still has some bark to it!

I handgun hunt mostly with Contenders/G2, but also Encores some and an MOA for awhile. For where I hunt now a 10" G2 in 357 Herrett is about perfect for me so that's probably the only one I'll use this year.

I killed a doe one time with a hi point c9 9mm. It was in gun season. Dogs ran it in. Only deer I seen that day. It stopped 3 ft of my tree. Had no intention of shooting it with the rifle. I watched it for 30-40 seconds before I even realized I had the pistol with me. Shot her straight down into the vitals missing the spine by a 1/4 inch. She ran about a 100 or so yards and died in sight. No blood trail since it was a high hit and no pass thru. I now have a 629 smith 4 in 44 and much nicer 9mm's. Plan to pick up a 10mm Springfield in the future. If the right opportunity presents, I may try to do another pistol kill sometimes. My Dad took a doe one time with a .38 revolver. He was using plus p hydra shoks. Deer ran 40 yards and died in sight. Pistols are awesome for hunting if you can shoot them accurately and get the right shots.

I have killed deer with my .357 GP100, Redhawk .44 mag and my 6" Kimber longslide in 10mm. All using my own handloads. Love packing a pistol in the woods. Goal this fall is to break in my new 6" Witness Hunter in 10mm. I love everything about that Italian stallion.
