Anyone else hunting with an E-Bike this year?

Motorized transportation in the woods should be for handicapped or the disabled not the lazy.
That’s what regulations are for. Also, in some areas, you would be limiting access realistically to within 4 or 5 miles of the access point, with probably 80% of the hunters hunting within a mile or two of the access point. Meanwhile, 10’s of thousands of acres goes unhunted because no one can realistically reach them. Coming from Big Woods country I would think that you would understand that concept better than most. Just a thought.

I mostly agree. Should not be allowed on trails or roads designated as non-motorized. My wife tells me I am over 50 but I'm not buying it.

I mentioned handicap or disabled. Am I missing something?
Get a trad bow......bear razor broadheads....no climber...maybe hunt off the ground. Absolutely no crossbow! Yes I know I'm overdoing it....let's just be careful of judgment on some issues....some states are stopping cell cameras. I'm nearly 60 and I understand more about it than some.....out west they ride horses instead of hiking in....to each his own.....we all have opinions and reasons.

Oh....I don't have a ebike but I don't have a problem with them.

i keep going back and forth on this. one place that i hunt the bike would make 90% of the walk in easier, but that other 10% would likely be so much HARDER with a bike that it likely wouldn't be worth it, and as far as i know there's no way around the hard bits, thats one of the reasons a dummy like me probably sees deer back there.

It isn’t a lazy issue! It allows people like my self who have done all the hard work over the years maybe get a few more years in!! I’m 56 years old. Retired from the fire service and have had surgery on my back and both knees from injuries and from age! But my mind still thinks like I’m 25 but my body says that isn’t happening anymore. If it allows me to hunt longer, then what’s wrong with that!!? You afraid of the competition!? It only allows me to get back to the same places I’ve always hunted and helps so I don’t end up having a heart attack dragging the deer out by myself which I still do quite a bit! When I was younger I carried not only my stand but deer out over my shoulders! Wish I could still do that! But I think I deserve a little break and still enjoy my hunting adventures as much as I used to and still come home to my family with out worrying. Wait til your older and see if you feel the same way?! I hope I’m still hunting for the next 20 yrs.!!

My state only allows Class 1 ebikes, which means you still have to pedal. I guess you're some kind of purist, hope you're only using a recurve. I'm guessing you've never even been on an ebike.
Not a purist at all. As I stated before I'm all for people with disabilities using motorized vehicles to get out to hunt. I am not on board with able bodied people / lazy people

No I have never been on a ebike but I do own a bicycle.

I'm not sure people are reading my post? Clearly I said people with disabilities. I'll save you the time to look up the definition "a physical or mental condition that limits a person's movements, senses, or activities". You ebike guys sure are a sensitive bunch.

Sincerely, thank you for your public service. Now back to topic. So what about the guy that is 75 and no longer physically able to handle an e-bike. Should he be allowed to just drive a sxs through the woods back to the places he hunted when he was younger and physically able? Where does the line get drawn?

There is a difference between a sport utility and a Ebike you still have to pedal. Obviously some don’t have the common since. I guess we should all stop hunting once we get to old to walk! Can’t wait til you end up in the situation. Let me know what you think then!!

I guess it’s the interpretation. Different opinions I guess.

I have seen a half dozen guys on e-bikes and I havent seen one yet that was peddled. Instead of getting all butt hurt, maybe take a breath and discuss the issue like adults. No one has said anything about excluding access to physically limited hunters. The primary WMA I hunt here has a wheeler access road for those folks and it enabled one of my closest hunting buddies to extend his hunting by a good 5 years. Fact is all of us will see our hunting careers come to an end same as our breathing.

Are those bikes at or below the 750 watt? Because mine will only do without pedaling on fairly level ground. And that is without hauling a deer. No way if you have a deer hooked up to a hauler or rope pull. Guess we should not allow boats since everyone doesn’t have a boat. I also would like to know about where they are riding. In Missouri you are only allowed to ride on bike trails and service roads. You are not allowed to cross fields or ride of trail. So you still have to park and walk normally to get away from pressure.
I take offense to the butt hurt comment because if you haven’t been in the situation then you don’t know what it’s like.

Why not go for the gusto and get the Areil Grizzly 2-1000watt, 2 batteries, they seem to be a do all kind of E-bike.

I have very clearly stated it is my belief e-bikes should be restricted from trails or roads where motorized travel is not allowed. The singular exception being roads or trails designated as mobility impaired access. I will address the sarcastic comment about boats. There are places where boat propulsion is limited to either electric or paddle. Never once have I heard anyone complain it isnt fair they cant use their gas motor because they have a physical limitation, those folks just go where gas motors are allowed. Pretty simple really. I am just a few weeks from 54 and have fairly lengthy list of knee ankle and foot injuries from my earlier years but fortunate that none of them have have limited me. The butt hurt comment was directed at the sarcastic tone of the response because of a differing opinion, the same tone delivered with the "Guess we should not allow boats" comment. My dad got to the point he would have qualified for a pass to use the mobility impaired access and take his 4 wheeler on the MIH access road. He never got it. Instead he stopped trying to deer hunt and switched to just skwerl hunting the short distances he could walk from the road normally less than 100 yards. His comment when I encouraged him to get the pass, "I can only hunt out a very short distance and I see no reason to run a machine through the woods disturbing others hunts. We only have a certain amount of time to enjoy what we do so never take your days in the woods for granted." I can hear it like it was yesterday.

One spot I hunt, no boats allowed on the waterways.

The Rattan LF 750W Step Through Foldable Fat Tire Ebike looks like a good economical option. Anyone with any experience?

Dont worry man, little birdie told me some big national laws pertaining to Ebikes are coming to fed land such as blm, usfs. Know your MVUM. EBikes ARE a motorized vehicle same as a dirt bike. Im holding off on an ebike until the CFR’s are acted into law and i get a copy of the 2023 MVUM for my area

I understand! Let’s just let it slide. Opinions vary and I get the fact that people abuse some privileges. That’s what makes it so hard to for the guys that really do need or could use it. Also would like to apologize. I had a very bad day yesterday and probably shouldn’t of even said anything. Cleaning up after this historic flooding and all the stuff that was ruined really had me upset and I’m sure the 2 stiff bourbons I had didn’t help.

I haven't bought an ebike because in Abalammer they're considered a motorized vehicle. Everywhere I could legally use one, I could also drive my truck. We don't have a lot of atv access on public land.

In Mississippi, they seem more lenient about atv use. But, my understanding is an ebike is the same as an atv there as well. Can't use then in walk-in only. I've heard but never directly read that some National Forest land has trails that are foot traffic only, excluding even pedal bikes.

All that being considered, I'd buy a Rokon before I bought an ebike because a 212cc gas engine will whup any electric motor you can put on a bike, whoop it hard, and whoop it for less money than the motor and that lithium battery.

All that said, I have no beef with them. I think the laws should be made with primary consideration to what the habitat can stand. If the biologists think a parcel can handle ATV use, cool. If they think it can only handle bootprints, cool. If you can access it, cool. If you can't, I feel for you, but this is the best time and place to be a mobility-restricted individual and I'm sure you can find something to do.

Opinions do indeed vary. The discussions get difficult when on one hand we want to protect and keep wild places wild but we also want every advantage available to extend our personal use of them as long as possible. Technology has and will continue to muddy those lines. At the end of the day I suppose I will always fall on the side of favoring whats best for the resource over the resource user so hopefully future generations will have the opportunity to experience the things we have. But I am also in favor of finding reasonable solutions to enable as much opportunity as possible.

Saw your addition after I posted. No apology needed brother. Didnt know you were dealing with flooding, not sure where you are. If there is something you need that I can help with, let me know.
