Anyone here actually climbing with strap on steps?

Where can you get these cam and hook straps?
Mine are mostly original, with some old ameristep straps mixed in i pulled from recalled steps. Pretty sure you can get them thrush strap works though.

Is it worth trying the timber hitch out with 1/8" amsteel?

I've never personally tried this, so I'm not sure. I don't really see why it would be an issue, though. I'd like to try it with squirrel steps but I've heard it doesn't work as well since they are narrower.

That makes sense with the slotted design. Also, webbing will help keep the step down if you bump the bottom of it. If you had the right strap, I bit you could timber hitch the strap. I have a bunch of polypropylene straps from Silent Approach steps, but that material is slick.

Someone in the comments on NB’s video said they tried and it was too slippery.

Makes sense. It's similar material to ultra high molecular weight stuff that is used for ultra slick tape and such. It's amazing that amsteel makes a prusik with itself so well (haven't tried it dunked in water though, haven't tried it in a tree yet, also probably helps that I am using 1/8" on a 1/4" line).

Anyone know how many Squirrel Steps (with OCB) fit in a single DanO pouch? I'm looking at picking up some from another member here. I've already got 5 on a strap, but not one of his pouches. Just spreading out the purchases so they don't hurt so much :p

I think I need something like 12-14 steps to hit 20' since I'm... vertically handicapped.

I carry 10 with straps in an old RedHead gear fanny pack and that thing is packed full. I would say 4-5 in a DanO pouch would be your capacity. I'd probably buy 3 DanO pouches for 12-14 steps, at a minimum.

I am usually right at 20-22 ft with 10 steps. That's me at 6ft even and a 32" inseam.

Given that I'm 89% of your height, that puts me at 17.8-19.6 feet with 10 steps if it scales proportionally, or about 11.25 steps to reach the same height. I'm guessing I can't buy 0.25 of a step.

Maybe I'll just do 2 pouches, and carry the 2 extra on my vest.

Dano makes an over the shoulder pouch specifically for squirrel steps and I believe it fits at least 10.

It’s been a while but I’ve put ten in the fleece ones before. It’s awkward though.
