Anyone here do hydro dipping?

Decided on a different pattern. Using True Timber Strata. The other pattern is just too big for a bow and smaller accessories.

I did the quiver first, as a "test" piece to make sure I like how the pattern is going to work out. Figured this small piece would be easier to paint back to black if I messed it up.

Hoping to get the riser, limbs, stabs, etc all done this weekend. Working with cold weather so it's a little difficult. Gotta warm the shop up, turn the heaters off and let them cool so I don't cause a flash fire with the fumes, spray the parts, let them dry, fill my tub with hot water, let everything acclimate, then spray activator and dip the parts and rinse. Hate rinsing inside because this stuff STINKS.

Well here's my failed attempt at my riser. I dipped this thing 5 times, using a different method each time. Tried a full slow dip, rolling, tape half and dip then tape other half (tape pulled dip off), taped half, dipped, then free handed it.

There's just so many cut puts and angles and turns that I couldn't get the film to cover the way I wanted. I think temps played a part too since I was doing this outside at 30 degrees and moving from warm indoors to cool outdoors, etc. Even though I had my water temp perfect, the air and the riser were still cold.

So I'm gonna send it to the pro over at Twisted Arrow Hydrographics and have him do it.

My stabs came out really good.

The bow is in UPS hands now on the way to Scott at Twisted Arrow Hydrographics.

Great work!

I’ve just got one word for ya: respirator. If you can smell it, it’s hurting you. Solvents are no joke.

I had one on while spraying, and didn't notice much smell. A little seeped through due to not getting a 100% seal on my face where my beard is, but wasn't bad at all.

It was the off- gassing while curing that was pretty pungent. I had to leave it in the garage for a few days while curing.
