I don't like sticks per se, but I haven't found a climbing method that I don't dislike something about. I've tried sticks, LWHC seat, and SRT and each have their pros and cons.

I do a combination of SRT and one sticking depending on the tree. On a tall limbless tree like a pine I will use both methods using stick, lineman’s belt and SRT rope. I can use a hand ascender with foot loop or a knaider to get up to the stick.

I personally like sticks, I use spurs on private where allowed but sticks when on public out where I know I’ll be climbing a pine or tree that’ll bleed sap everywhere. I did recently go back to buckles though. I found I’m quicker with them than the ropes but I still got the LW Versa button mod. Generally I use 5 helium’s and can get well over 20’ with good spacing. Will probably go to 4 with saddle. I always liked to step down onto my lock ons.C3C1BE1E-FD8A-4E59-A302-BB3CE0DBD421.jpegD434E141-4C9F-4955-A199-473347D914E9.jpeg

It's worth noting that sticks are a more natural match to lock-ons as they're similar in overall bulk.

With a saddle the bulk of the "stand" drops so much and if you're not using a jx3 you don't have the built-in stickhauler. So sticks become a choice with more tradeoffs (they become the bulkiest thing you're carrying).

5 full length heliums is a load. Hats off to you.

Sticks are not my favorite due to the weight, but as mattsteg mentioned it helps that I'm also haulin' them in with the JX3. That being said, using sticks is my most efficient way up the tree by far. I've been practicing with one-sticking and SRT, but I'm still trying to work out the kinks in my technique. Also plan to give the LWHC a shot.

I broke down and ordered the 20" Heliums today. As I said before I really dislike my LW sticks with there stupid single step design. I'll be using the Helium's on a lottery hunt where I have to preset my setup so they will be nice to have for that vs my Stepps. I'll also be using them and my predator with daisy chain webbing from EWO so no buckles!
