Okay gun nuts. Nitride or parkized? Looks like I can get a good deal on a 450 upper. Nothing fancy. But will work for what I am gonna do with it.
Timber pimps don't paint their guns.Which 1 does spray paint stick to best.....hahahaha
Doh. Your right. I forgot about the nitro Hoyt by @Red BeardI beg your pardon?

Both work well for the intended purpose. Parkerizing is meant to hold oil on the steel to prevent further corrosion. Both parked and blued gun parts need to be oiled. Nitride is not meant to hold oil and stays dry. It's still good good practice to wipe down any gun with a light coat of oil before storing it, but it's much more critical with Parkerizing. Parked guns can be Cerakoted; Cerakote actually sticks to Parkerizing quite well and some of the primo Cerakote shops will Park a gun before they Kote it. You can re-Park a gun yourself with salts purchased from Brownells or Midway, if you have a large enough boiling vessel. If you're going to rattlecan it I'd give a slight edge to Nitride but really it's mostly academic.Okay gun nuts. Nitride or parkized? Looks like I can get a good deal on a 450 upper. Nothing fancy. A Pachmayr magnum recoil pad may be the ticket for you.Went to the range with the 450. Ouch. Kinda have some buyer remorse. Gonna order a pad to help soak up a little extra.
Went to the range with the 450. Ouch. Kinda have some buyer remorse. Wish I would have went 350. I got close at the 50 yard line checking everything out. Didn't have enough in me to shoot from 100. Gonna order a pad to help soak up a little extra.
Which barrel length do you have?Yeah it’s a thumper. I have the Ruger American 450. Need to check the zero on mine this week. Hopefully it’s still on at 100 ha.
Which barrel length do you have?
There's an 18" and a 22". I have the longer one and from the stories I'm hearing the shorter barrel has more recoil.
I know one thing for sure....I'm gonna change that factory muzzle break, to a linear compensator. That factory muzzle break is awful loud.
Yep, I totally understand....and while we're talking about it, I got on Optics Planet and ordered a KAW Precision Linear Compensator for a 450 Bushmaster, for $58.70. I haven't shot it since the buck in the photo above, which was 2020. Just the same, if/when I do, I ain't going through that ear busting situation, when hunting again.I think it’s actually a 16”. It’s the Ranch variation. Yeah my ears were ringing after a shooting a deer last season.
Yeah, you know when a 450 goes off. Seems you're shooting an AR, I assume your muzzle came threaded for a flash hider (probably has a FH installed). That means that you can install a muzzle brake to help mitigate the recoil somewhat. Other things you could try are recoil pads, a shotgunner's recoil shoulder pad (mounts on your shoulder, not the gun), heavier buffer spring/weight combo. The last might affect cycling so if you try it, get it from a place you can return it to if it doesn't cycle right anymore.Went to the range with the 450. Ouch. Kinda have some buyer remorse.
