Anyone still using Lone Wolf HC?

I guess I’m a “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” type, but I am going on 5 years using the same LWHC with bolt mod, with zero issues. Guessing I have somewhere North of 100 hunts using it. I was expecting it to break after reading many similar posts online, so a couple of years ago I purchased the Summit Openshot and coverted the HC into a climbing platform as well. It works fine, but I prefer the LW for the lighter weight, as well as it folding flat for packability.

i’m amazed this climbing method is not more popular, and thought for sure there would be more climbing platform options available by now.

Yep. It’s my go to but I plan to add 2tc and repelling to the mix this year.
The hand climber is just so easy and it’s a do it all piece. Climbing method and platform and I bungee it to my Fanny pack around my back and it’s like I’m only carrying my weapon.

I owned a couple LWHC’s and really loved the concept of them, the packability, etc. until one time I just about killed myself on one.

Was up a good 16-18’ and thought it was really my fault, I just about lost the bottom platform and also wasn’t tethered to the tree properly in the moment. No one was around and I was stuck on my knees just on the seat, not able to reach the bottom and also not able to let go of the bear hug I was giving the tree. Somehow I managed to half @$$ tether in and then somehow work the platform back up enough to get it set straight enough to climb back down. Didn’t even bother hunting after that episode that day.

Even though it was my fault, it kind of put me off from LW climbers after that. Not to say you should get rid of yours, but that was my experience. I used it plenty successfully before that without issue.

That said I do think the new LWCG climber looks very cool. But holy guacamole the price tag!

I've had a lwhc for 16-17 years. They're good stands. If had tall straight trees I'd pick it over a hang on any day. Although, the seat is not the most comfortable

@jbogg is talking about using the LWHC seat as a climbing method/platform for saddlehunting.

For me it seemed too sketchy.

However, I made a climbing platform from a Sit and Climb bottom that I feel more confident about. It's been great so far, but it's about 10lbs. I do enjoy all the footroom it offers, like 22" deep. If I had something similar at around 7lbs, that would be the ticket.

I tried it in the back yard a couple of times. It worked, but didn’t seem as stable as I’d prefer. And, like other climbers, the concept is limited by the tree you can easily climb and hunt. Going around limbs or up a crooked/goofy tree is a chore, for me, which is why I stuck with climbing sticks.

I've got two Lone Wolf hand climbers and when I first learned about using the 'seat' as a platform I tried it...
I could tell right away that it would eventually break. I $h!t canned that idea.

I would be using one if mine didn’t break before its second season. I loved not being locked in and having the ability to easily move my platform if I needed to.

That being said I have been making moves …IMG_5301.png

You’re both right. The original bottom in the background taco’d. It broke in two spots near the middle. The replacement is the rest of an old lone wolf sand cast stand. It’s bigger but not that much heavier.
