We've been working hard the past few weeks to come up with some big changes to our vendor policies to meet the changing needs of our community. Please see the new vendor rules here:

Yes you can drill holes and maintain a good amount of strength even in 1/16"x1" tubing. That's what I built my stick out of and it's holding up great even under dynamic loads. The key is to make sure that the weights saving holes aren't too close to any load bearing holes like the holes for your versa button and steps. At least that's the strategy I went with and it worked great. As far as weight savings I want to say it was around 1/4 oz per hole (drilling straight through the tubing on both sides) so it probably only saved around 4-5 oz for me.
I weigh 200-205. I built my stick a like a month ago. There's a thread for it somewhere on here with pics. I've climbed with it a lot and put it through it's paces to ensure it doesn't fail at the wrong time. I even put a heavy pack on and jumped up and down on the top and bottom steps and it didn't phase it at all. 1/16 can be risky when you go down to 3/4 inch but at 1" there seems to be enough material there to hold fine. Also if you look at my stick, I designed my steps with two bolts instead of just 1 which I'm sure makes a difference. Hope this helps you out.
