api sticks on sale

I cut my heliums down to 16" and use a movable aider that cinches to my foot. I can get the same height as the stock stick length. I did it more for packability, not so much for the weight savings. I can fit my whole system in my backpack, and never have to worry about things getting caught on brush.

I'd like to give these sticks a try because my heliums don't pack together as nicely as I'd like, and I'm not a fan of the folding steps on the heliums (don't really like any moving parts)

Any pics of this movable aid system that you speak of? I know guys are using the rope step mod but I don’t think it’s movable??

Just an ameristep strap. Feed the end through the cam buckle then tie an overhand knot on a bight. Can't take any credit though, DaveT came up with the moveable aider and swampsnyper came up with the idea to have an aider that cinches to your foot.

With shortened sticks, guys are hanging the moveable aider from the TOP of the stick , correct? I dont think i would do a 16" stick but the 24" stick is intriguing to me, especially if I can get the same height with three 24" sticks and an aider as I can with three stock sticks.

DaveT made a video:

Yes, top of the stick

Getting these ready for tomorrow morning's hunt. I'll have a 20" stick with 24" sewn in webbing step, amsteel with boat cleat bolt mod, and drilled out tube. Will be way under 2 lbs. I think it's at 1.7lbs before drilling it. More pics tonight.

Pics on the website are wrong, shows 9 standoffs, but it only comes with 6 standoffs and 9 steps. 3 sticks with the webbing step is good enough for me though.

So you went with a 20” stick? I think you’ll like them.

Yeah, I'd rather have better packability than an extra foot up the tree. I'm going to play with my 3 extra steps and make some singles with sewn webbing steps hanging down.

Got these API sticks in and used them yesterday.

Not a fan.

Very little room from step to tree. Less than my lonewolfs. Barely a toe grip with my size 13 Aerohead sports. The step is slippery when wet and the stick on any angle with the straight across makes it a little sketchy. One time up the tree and had a few steps loose up.

I plan on trying to return them. I would rather use screw in steps.

Great idea for the aiders, I'm sure that will keep the foothold spread.

I have the api sticks w rope mods used them all last season. I love them. They are made to stack together nicely. I use the big nite eyez twisty strap to secure them. I have the beast sticks coming to replace them. They seem lighter than my xop sticks as well. Really good sticks for the money.
They steps are kind of slick as mentioned above. But all in all great for the price.

@Tboxer122 did you cut yours down or are they stock length? Just got mine, still deciding on which way to go. Thanks.

Kept mine factory length. I have 1 step aiders on 2 of the 4 as well. But... cutting them and using aiders would be a great idea.

I have some DIY sticks and Hawk Heliums cut down to 24", but I picked up two sets of these for my daughter to use. I'll leave them stock for her as she's 15 and not comfortable with my 24" sticks. I can always cut them down later. Where she hunts with me, portability isn't really an issue and I'll preset a couple trees for us.

Apparently I weighed it wrong the other night, but they come out to 2.4 lbs a piece. Drilling and counter sinking all those holes makes me understand why those hunting beast sticks cost so much! Boat cleat bolt rope mode is still amazing. All in all, I like these so far, will update as the year progresses.

Nice Job!!!

First post here, once in awhile gawker.
So I’m coming out of the dark ages of sling/saddle hunting.
This was one of the first posts I clicked on a couple weeks ago while cruising thru.
Glad I did as I am now finally after 25 years of hauling screw-ins around, done.
Just about got this kit built, waiting on the Amsteel.
Built a 5 step pre recall ameristep platform with strapworks camo strap and ocb.
This changes the game immeasurably.
Of course I had to do the drill mod.B14E6AE4-E8D9-4BD3-BE87-41F965DCEBDF.jpeg

First I must say they look awesome!
But
I think you would have came out ahead throwing the stick away and ordering 3 pieces of 1x1x1/16 x what ever length, that would have cut the weight of the stick alone by 1/2.
