Archery in flooded areas question

Let's say u are hunting flooded area...now u found the tree and it time to climb....where and how to put your bow out of the water? I don't like the idea of carrying it with me. I can't screw anything into the tree. Can't count on all trees having lower branches to hang the bow off of.

I thinking paracord that can be girth hitch to the opposite side of the trunk I would be climbing on. Small prusik and some kind of hook to hang the bow. Attach pull up rope and go up the tree. Hopefully it would be easy enough to bet the bow off the hook...pull up and hunt. To go down I thinking a paracord pull down rope that I would clip onto the backside of the tree off the rappel rope girth hitch with a wide mouth biner. Prusik and small biner on the other end. Look down and visually see the the lower prusik and biner is a good height...pull back up and then relower with the bow. I trying to keep the bow on the opposite side of the tree I climbing just in case I fall...I don't want to hit the bow or especially the broadheads on my arrows.

I still have to try my idea but also seeing if anybody else figured it out yet. Thanks for any ideas

I ran into this problem on Friday, and any thought I had on where to put it for the trip up, was made worse by the thought of going back down. I don't have a good answer, as I picked a tree that was on a 3 square foot island in the swamp so I send my bow down to dry ground at the end. Maybe if you have a spare platform you could put that at the bottom. Or just climb with your bow.

Your idea climbing sounds fine. Any basic bowholder with an open hook should do the job.

On the way down,if you carry a long enough pullup rope, you could lower your bow to just off the water, tie it off with a slipknot, descend, and release the skipknot with a yank after you get your bow.

I guess you could do that both directions.

If you don’t want to sling the bow around your shoulder or back and climb with it, the only way I can think of would be to set up your bow holder up on the tree as high as you can reach from the ground. Hang your bow there, then either leave it there and continue to climb/setup or attach your pull up rope to the bow and then continue to climb/setup. Start placing your climbing sticks or steps and go past the hanging bow and get to where you’re wanting to hunt. Set up platform and everything else you need to hunt. Climb back down low enough to grab your bow and hook (may mean getting back down on the ground again) then either climb up with it slung over you (you won’t have extra gear hanging off of you by now) or if you have the pull up rope, just stay up the tree and pull it up. (On second thought you might need 2 bow hangers I guess if you’re doing the pull up rope.)

Sounds a lot more complicated but wouldn’t be that much more cumbersome than a normal setup routine I don’t think.

I run into this issue quite frequently and use an extra ameristep on an OCB at the bottom of the tree. I hang my bow on that and attach my Doyle's gear hoist to it. I then climb the tree and get all set up and pull my bow up. When I am done, I lower my bow and hook it back onto the ameristep. This is the trickiest part and sometimes takes me a couple of tries. I have reflective tape on this step for lowering my bow in the dark. I have never tried this with a gun though. I just climb with the gun on my back.

I do like @Swampman does or if I know I am gonna be someplace like that I just use my rainy day recurve and just prop it up at the base with just the tip in the water! It gets wet when I hunt in the rain, like right now, so i figure it won't hurt it!!!

I thought about a second bow arm but I think that would be a pain to do on the way back down in the dark with branches etc fighting u. I'm cleaning/organizing hunt stuff currently.. once I'm done I'll try I short climb and give my idea I shot.

With the amount of rain we been having I need to figure a method out before my next quota hunt. I know it'll be wet almost everywhere

Maybe get a cam jam, some paracord, and tie in a long wolf quick hang bracket. Hook the limb of your bow with it and tie on the bow rope from there. Idk how easy it would be to hook coming back down though. May be worth doing a test run prior to depending on it.

Nevermind, @Swampman's idea sounds better.

This works pretty good...I always carry this little tether to hang things when I need a quick break
I added these 2 thingsScreenshot_20201025-161512(1).png

Hook up little tether and add hook. Hang bow and attach pull up
Screenshot_20201025-161456(1).png

Climb up and get set up. Bow easily came off the hook

Attach bow holder rope to back of rappel rope girth hitch....lower down and verify prusik height is good..pull back up and lower bowScreenshot_20201025-161538(1).pngScreenshot_20201025-161532(1).png

Ready to descend

Bow would be out of the water and waiting on me on the ground

Ive used a NiteIze 18'' gear tie to hang my bow off of when I forgot my usual screw in bow holder. I doubled it up and formed a hook. Worked fine, and I attached it to my tether.

How does that help with keeping ur bow outta the water in a flooded area?

Have you looked into the insights bow pack? I bought one for this very reason when my timber bottom is flooded. Bow goes up with you and down with you. Problem solved, only downside is that the insights pack is a little big.
