Arsenal Platform

Wife will kill me if I keep tearing up our landscape trees, so I tested on a pine stump... interestingly the top was separating from tree like @Gator experienced (but the wood is squishy too so I need to do more testing in the woods this weekend). I’ll need to fill in that darn bare aluminum RZR engraving somehow.

Honest question, not trying to be critical or say anyone is doing things wrong, but are those experiencing the top separation camming it in? Asking because I had the same separation at the top if I didn’t can it in but no issue when I did. Attached is step 7 of the platform directions I got with mine. IMG_6499.jpeg

IMG_8275.jpegJust delivered, After using the standard RZR last year this thing seams huge… tried it out on various trees and love it. Like husker, I can’t imagine it kicking out. Never trusted the previous RZR in a pine like pictured. Going to be nice to get in those again. Only complaints is obviously the weight, I purchased RZRmag 2.0 for more area at the same weight of the RZR 1.0, didn’t know I would be gaining 7-8oz. Also going to have to buy another backpack… somehow I could lose the 1.0 in the bag but the mag 2.0 is a very tight fit.

No problems here, cammed in each time, only 170lbs, that probably helps…

What’s different from the 1.0 that helps it cam so much better? Having 4 teeth instead of 2 on the post bracket? Anything else different?

I mean I did… but my “tree” is the stump of a tree I cut down 18 months ago. I am concerned that the long sharp teeth on the top(maybe bottom too, those are also longer on v2) create a sort of pillow effect and as they sink into the tree it needs to be retightened… but they don’t dig into the same spot when you flip up and recam so after a few minutes it’s sort of loose again. Just hypothesizing, I never had the issue on either size v1 platform, but when I jump on this it does separate a bit on the dead stump. Hopefully it’s not like this on a live tree… still feels plenty secure to me.

You can toe hook it to get it tighter when you aren’t on a stump if needed too. Totally understand the tearing up the tree thing, my wife was less than pleased when she saw I added to the battle scars of our main tree in the back yard.

It’s spring, the bark will grow back stronger. It’s just science.

I cammed just the bottom, then both, then toe hooked and did the bottom, then tried both again. Same result off the top separating until I pulled out the cam strap, then all was well. This was on a live soft barked silver maple. Maybe the rope was stretching being new? HFAS did the same though. Need to keep trying the rope and maybe on some harder bark when I get time.

I definitely want and need to test more but I’m curious if you tightened your rope before flipping the top teeth section over like the instructions state? That step seemed very odd to me and I posted above about it but didn’t have the time to test with having the top bracket already flipped out (what I would consider normal)before tightening the rope

Yes I did. I tightened it with it up, flipped the top over, cammed down. I toe hooked it as well out of habit on my first test and felt that was better but was able to get the top tight either way. I did not try it with the top bracket out before flipping it down however I think that would work just as well, especially if I toe hook it every time.

It’s my belief that some folks can get their platform cammed in with just their upper body as they climb and be great, I’m more comfortable getting tethered in and toe hooking it. I feel I have additional safety in place at that point and am also able to get the platform tighter to the tree, both nice for me being afraid of heights and all. I’ve felt that way with 4 different platforms. Not saying it’s right, just my preference.

What in gods name is that wonky rope routing?

Should look more like a figure 8 with a half hitch, sorry I didn’t get a better pic of that on mine. Maybe I’ll try again tomorrow if I’m not
trying to win enough money on college basketball to pay for this fiasco lol

Ok - got mine on a tree. very happy with how light and slim it is.

Regarding attachment. I attached it with the included rope as well as a cam strap. I had varying success with the rope and I can tell it will take some practice to get used to. The first few times I did not have any gap on the top teeth like other people reported, but I did encounter that a few times while playing with leveling the platform. I think leveling the platform seems to be the biggest challenge, but I assume it is that way with any rope attachment, since you can't just let some strap out, you have to fully undo the rope.

I found success in this method -attach with the rope while the platform is open only enough to secure the rope. Open the platform to verify leveling and adjust the screw if needed. If you adjust the screw - you have to undo the rope and start over. Once you are satisfied with the leveling, close the platform a little and flip the top section. While ensuring the rope is still perpendicular to the tree, open the platform fully, making the top section bite in.

I tried using the cam strap a few times. works well, same type of issues with figuring out the exact type of slack needed to engage the teeth properly. But it is easier to adjust for leveling.

Not sure which method I will stick with, need to do more experimenting. I had no flex in my platform. 165lbs. size 12 boots in the pics. Yes that is the platform free floating from biting the tree. Kinda is nice for when taking the strap off.

I did have some issues with the buttons for the top section seeming to stick. I can see them being a problem with gloves on. I felt like the rope cleat was hard to undo, but I might just need practice

Anyone feel like measuring the teeth diameter. Outside teeth tip to tip. Inside teeth tip to tip, and depth of outer tip to post? Please and thank you.

I climbed and threw mine on an ash today and it was rock solid. I used a USA Pro and I did tighten it pretty good with the top standoff still folded per suggestion above. I partially flipped the top standoff out then cammed the bottom by hand and the Amsteel was like a guitar string. Camming the bottom locks the top open. Even bouncing on it I couldn’t make it budge. Only tried the one tree but first try holding like it did I feel pretty good. But just like the v1 I don’t think you can tilt this down and have it stay at that angle unweighted, it wants to spring up to be straight out.
