Have used the stock cam buckle, daisy chain webbing, and amsteel daisy chain. All three work.
Stock cam buckle is the heaviest and easiest to get secure/tight. Having the buckle on the end is nice for added weight when swinging the end of the webbing around larger trees but not a huge factor to me. Easiest to secure sticks to challenging or mangled trees
Daisy chain webbing worked well for me, used it for a couple of hunts before trying out the amsteel daisy chains
Amsteel daisy chain is the lightest. Had one instance where the light weight became an “issue” in getting it around a really large diameter tree; it just took a little patience and some extra swings to get it around. Not a big deal, since I don’t climb very large diameter trees that often.
In comparison to the daisy chain webbing, I liked the fact that I didn’t have to adjust the amsteel - with the webbing I always wanted to ensure it was laying flat and wasn’t twisted over on itself. (Likely does not make a big difference, more just personal preference/ OCD!). Not something I thought about with the amsteel.
The amsteel - at times - seem to roll or slip down the tree more easily that the stock cam buckle or daisy chain webbing. Never a big issue, just happened to notice it happening.
After some trial I ended up using the amsteel daisy chain the most and ended the season using that method. As mentioned, it is really helpful to turn the stick slightly sideways if you are between loops to get to the one-smaller setting. Seem to lock in very tight. Haven’t had one get dislodged on me. Yet!
