My ryobi has crapped out,and need to buy another cordless drill for predrilling for bolts.
What is the best drill that has the most power, and batteries hold a good charge.
Compactness would be a plus as well.

You wanna stay with the "contractor grade brands" like dewalt, milwaukee, bosch, or makita. The milwaukee fuels are expensive but last a really long time and have a good amount of torque. As for drilling for bolts, depending on how many trees you prep youll always need multiple batteries. I prep 15-20 trees total and that requires multiple batteries and multiple trips if i just use a cordless drill.

M-18, Milwaukee fuel. I use it for everything, including drilling 8” holes in over 2’ of ice when I’m fishing. It’s powerful and the batts last forever. IMO they are the best out there. And....the fuel m-18 line of tools has a ton of options. They’re expensive but they’re quality products

What 8” do you use? I use a 6” nills but wish I had an 8 at times.

I use my fuel for everything as well.

Check out the weight of the Makita 18v.- It used to be the lightest in its class- I’ve used one for several years now

I got this set for Christmas, and I LOVE them.

I have prepped a few trees, and haven’t gotten to the end of a battery yet. I’m sure I will drain a battery late summer when I do big prep days, but they seem to do well so far. I think I prepped 3 full trees so far on one.

I think it’s just the regular strikemaster. I put an extension on it too. Darn near buried a couple times this year too.

I love my brushless Milwaukee fuel. If you have the big battery, one battery will last you a day setting up trees. You’ll likely be tired of climbing trees before she gives up. If you have the smaller battery, that’s a different story, you’ll want a second or possibly a 3rd in your bag, depending on how many trees you’re setting up in a day.

I think Milwaukee makes great cordless tools.. I have the 18 and 12 volt sets, they are both around 10 years old and for 8 years they got used very heavily everyday for work.

How quiet are the Milwaukee Fuels?

I may potentially use the drill for a setup/hunt situation at certain times.

I used a hand warmer muff with a small drill and it really quiets it down a lot.
I drilled trees mid day for an afternoon/evening hunt with it

I think it all depends on your situation. The fuels aren’t quiet but I don’t think any drill is in the woods. I have set a tree up and hunted it right away. I saw some does and fawns. I wasn’t expecting a great buck to come strolling through but ya never know.
