Best pants for saddle hunting

I am looking for suggestions on a good hunting pant for saddle hunting. Ideally, I want pants that are tough as nails (won't get ripped by briers), have built in knee pad option, and waterproof. I am not hung up on needing to be camo or sent proof.

I am leaning towards Duluth trading ultimate cargo pant. But they aren't 100% waterproof.

Look into crye precision pants. I'm in the army and get them so I just use them for early season when it's not cold. They have built in knee pads and elastic in the waist and crotch. Very comfortable and lots of pockets. I recommend the Gen 3s

The large belt loops might be an issue. They can cause pressure points along with the built in waist adjusters that are in some pants.

Those look bad ass! Thanks.

Do they sell them in stores anywhere? I wouldn't mind trying them on.

Good point. Could potentially cut them off but hate to cut into new pants.

Nope. Gotta order them off their website. Be careful on Amazon and eBay there are a lot of fakes out there that don't have elastic or aren't well made. You'll only need 1 set. I've been hunting in the same pair for years. I use gen 3s and now their on gen 5 and mine are still good

I own about 6 pair of these exact pants in several colors. I’ve been wearing them regularly for about 15 years. I love them BUT they are no where near water proof. After you’ve washed them one time they are no more water proof than you jeans. They are made of cotton. Don’t get me wrong they are great, tough, versatile pants but they are not going to keep you remotely dry.

Caterpillar makes a work Jean with knee pad pockets and typical cargo pant pockets. But wait there's more.... they have secondary pockets that flop out like a tool pouch. I love the things. However I have never seen them in any colors besides black

My Duluth pants didn't hold up well at all. I have dress pants that took more abuse. I use military BDUs in the early season. They have pockets for knee pads...I just cut some closed cell foam to fit them. It's pretty nice having built in knee pads.

The 5-11 pants have pockets for knee pads also.

I like the crye pants number one because I get them free every few years and two because of all the pockets. Each pair has 8 pockets plus a knife pocket and come with knee pads that you don't even know are there while walking. The pockets on the front of the legs below the waist line are great in the saddle

Agreed. I'm sure they are very nice but the $200+ price tag and not being waterproof, insulated, as well as the need to add the knee pad will keep them out of my closet.

I guess I like them because I have them and here in NC early season is still pretty hot in the 80s-90s so I don't need insulated anything until November.

The 1st thing I notice about those pants is the extra loops and stuff around the waist. I think it would cause some pressure points for a lot of guys.

I would recommend the Sitka Timberlines. I’ve worn tons of brands of pants over the years and these are damn near perfect. Waterproof butt and knees, and insertable knee pads. Yes there expensive but well worth the money if your looking to buy one pair of pants to last the rest of your life. Great for ground pound, saddle hunting, stand hunting, and awesome under bibs.

I just saw some new pants from Kuiu. Built-in knee pads and water proof below the knees???
I didn't look at the info closely.
