Still pretty new to all this. Is a backpack the best place to store your ring of steps? If so when do you get them out at the bottom of the tree or at the last step? Been a struggle. Any information much appreciated!

I keep mine in a fleece dump pouch attached to my saddle. If I’m walking a really long way in then I will sometimes put the entire dump pouch into my backpack and attach to saddle at the tree.

Likein it!!
I made the mistake last night of going up the tree with him still in my backpack... Bummer! Went back down took them out of my backpack hung them around my neck! And thought there must be a better way:)

I use 5 squirrel steps with the OCB strap. I keep them in the dump pouch on my right side on top of my gear strap and bow hanger. Dump pouch on my left has my LB and tether. Everything else is in my pack. Once I’m up to the swaider on my top WE step I whip out the ROS and set them just above and then climb the rest of the way up and tether in.

I have the ameristep ring of steps. And I do have a military-style don't pouch on my right but really didn't think they would go in it. But I will be giving it a try. Thanks

I have them in my backpack until I get to the tree along with my WE steps. Before I start climbing, I put a loose slip knot in the strap with all the (ROS) steps slid down to the buckle. Then I hang them from a biner on one of my dump pouches. I have been considering wearing them bandolier style as someone else mentioned they do. Sounds like a good idea to me. Either way, the last place you want them while climbing is in the backpack. PITB to get to them there!

My hawk self climber came with a fleece style dump pouch to hold straps and such. It has a cinch at the opening and a strap and buckle sewed into it to attach to the climber.

I put it on my battle belt and use it for my ROS as well as a ratchet strap to secure my stick at the top as part of the ring.

I was putting them in my dump pouch, but even though they fit well enough at ground level, while attached via LB it got to be too much of a hassle. I now run something similar to Kyler but I use a kydex jhook.

I pack them strapped to my sticks and when I prep to climb the ros goes on my saddle.

In a dump pouch on my right side. Currently use a molle entrenchment tool bag. Have used the 1 quart canteen pouch and one of @DanO’s pouches. However DanO is supposedly coming out with a pouch specially designed for a ROS. I hope anyway.

I put mine in my backpack. When I get to my last stick I swing my backpack around pull the ring of steps out then swing the backpack back on and ratchet strap that puppy down.

Hands free using the lineman’s.
