Better Pull-Down Rope Clips

When prepping some of my gear for this season I noticed that the clip on my main pull-down rope was starting to stretch out lengthwise. Probably would have only had one or two more hard tugs on it before breaking and leaving my rappel rope stuck up in a tree. These clips are cheapies from Amazon that many will probably recognize. They look identical to the ones that come with EWO's Dynaglide kit. I don't have that kit, but they look the same in the pics on their website.

So I decided to pull-test a new one of those to see what it would break at. 157 lbs is what it took before breaking as seen in pics. I wanted something stronger so finally found ones that were close enough in size and weight, but also much stronger. Freskaro brand (green one in the pics). Chinese for sure, but it did great in the pull test. My dyneema actually broke at the knot at 350 lbs and the clip was unscathed. It's a bit bigger than the other clips, but not by much. Still very light weight.

Swapping these clips out on all my pull down ropes. Just sharing for anyone interested. Figured I couldn't be the only one who has been looking for tiny and light, but strong clips.

I remember trying to get some of those during Covid and couldn't find them in stock anywhere. Had forgotten the brand. Thanks for reminding me.

I considered that. But I like the convenience and flexibility of having the clip on there.

I saw your reply and got interested in the small clips. Visited the website, ordered 2 of them.....they won't ship until mid-October. I just laughed and deleted the email....guess I'll be surprised when they get here.
But, seriously, how do they stay in business like that?

Quality is worth waiting for.

Use some 1/8 amsteel and a climbing rated carabiner! Problem solved.:sunglasses:

I picked up a Cypher wire gate carabiner for my pull down rope. CE rated at 24/8, so it could be an emergency carabiner in a worst-case scenario. Overkill for sure but for $5 seemed like a no-brainer.

I like to keep those clips as small as possible so they can fit tucked away in a small pocket. Full size biners...too beaucoup.
