Bino Harness for Saddle hunting

I just use Sitka harness straps like suspenders they were $20. I had to replace metal rings with some cord I got at rei the metal was so loud it was annoying. Now they are silent.

Alaskan Guide Creations. Been using it for two years now. This is the third I've tried. Opens away from you. Been running my 10x 42 Swaros. Slim ,quiet.

Yep, I use the Rick Young for everything other than hunting. Scouting, 3D etc. Hunting, I like my xpensive optics covered and safe. Even has a rain fly underneath that pops out and fully covers.

Rick young for the win. Only time I don’t like it is during rain/snow because their neoprene cover doesn’t work so hot. Otherwise I also wear it for everything. Super minimal and surprisingly comfortable.

I bought their rain cover. Haven’t used it yet but it clips inside my pack for when I need it.

It depends on what you want them for, something to just carry you binoculars, rick young. Something to protect and carry your binos, protect and carry your rangefinder. I almost jammed a stick in my eye with an open carry bino harness. That is why I went to the Alaska Guide Creation system. Also, on my chest I now carry my binos, rangefinder, headlamp, lens brush, milkweed and still have room for a few other things.

I made an even more minimalist diy RYO and it works for me. Not sure I would want to hike all day with it, but it’s fine for hanging in the saddle.

It seems the Rick Young is going to be the best for Saddle hunting...... it keeps the lowest profile. I currently have the Rick Young, FHF small, Kuiu Pro and the Marsupial (smallest model and not full enclosure) that I have been testing. The Rick Young is going to be the winner I do believe for saddle hunting ..... Ihave the neoprene cover and the little rangefinder attachment as well. I wish there was a little cover for my rangefinder on misty/light rain days though.

I think I am going to keep the Marsupial for hunting out west on foot though. I believe I like it better than the Kuiu Pro I ran last year.

Have you tried the Alaska Guide Creations? Has as small a profile as you're showing. I shoot my longbows and recurves wearing it. JMO

I think the AGC is a little more bulky than the ones I am testing(not saying it’s bulky)....... like you said it doesn’t interfere with shooting. It interferes with the triangle shape your bridge forms while hanging.

The Rick Young is as minimal as it gets. You also can adjust so the binos hang a bit lower which makes them hang below the acute part of the triangle formed by the bridge. Also lees bulk in the tree if you to take them off and hang on a hook/limb.

Notice how the Kuiu fills up the triangle shape the bridge makes. It’s fine until you start twisting Left/right to look or shoot something. This harness hangs higher in your chest putting it in the triangle created by the bridge.BF68E3FA-ECE5-49CD-A1A3-916A0C3917AA.jpeg93E3F059-4B3E-4B7C-BCE9-C660DF2BCC4B.jpeg065CB70D-CD77-4C67-BBDB-20542781F6D1.jpegBF68E3FA-ECE5-49CD-A1A3-916A0C3917AA.jpeg065CB70D-CD77-4C67-BBDB-20542781F6D1.jpeg

See how the RY bino harness isn’t as wide and you can get it to hang lower so it’s not up in the acute part of the triangle 67165A7A-E7A5-4455-8E15-5F8AC2673589.jpeg67165A7A-E7A5-4455-8E15-5F8AC2673589.jpeg6B1F222C-E169-4CFF-B081-54E08FAC2C86.jpegFF5FF4BE-3521-40E7-B9E0-8868D3E84BA2.jpeg

Moving away from my hunting Horn standard. The magnetic closure is too loud. Here are the options I am looking at. The AGC Kodiak is my first choice, but looking for other experiences. The RIck Young type is not for me. I keep my bridge low and do not seem to have the issues others have described.

  • Raptor “Original” Bino Chest Pack – BLACKS CREEK GUIDE GEAR
  • Kodiak C.U.B. with M.A.X. Pocket – Alaska Guide Creations
  • Hill People Gear | Real use gear for backcountry travelers
  • Mountain Optics Harness in Optifade Open Country - SITKA Gear Big Game Gear and Accessories
  • Bino D Mag - Hunting Optics Accessories | Badlands Gear
  • MYSTERY RANCH BACKPACKS – Quick Draw Bino Harness

I wouldn’t discount the Masupial..... it has magnets and can be loud if you are reckless. The plus is......in a tree stand situation you can leave the flap open while you hunt.

What kind of binos require that much protection when you’re essentially stationary? Asking for a friend.

I have high end glass. I protect them every chance I get especially when walking to and from. For me.... the bino harness is not really about protection in the tree but convenience of having my bino’s ready to use and put away without much movement/noise. A bino harness is a tool to accomplish that task, keeps your binos at your finger tips. You are right though..... when stationary unless it’s raining, protection is not necessary.

LOL, they are your knockers brother, do it how you want. Just not sure of the purpose of the harness AND lens covers HAHA
Well, I learned my lesson yesterday in pouring rain.... for my walks with the dog, I have a tool belt with a pouch for binos, quail dummy, plastic bags, etc. no lens covers on the binos. (What for? They are in a pouch, right?). Too bad, I had left the pouch unzipped and the rain was enough water on the lenses to penetrate the bino, leaving me with foggy lenses on the inside. Note to myself: try to save them and put those lens covers back on....
