Birmingham-Memphis saddle hunters

If south I'd go to Pelham or Alabaster, about 15 -20 minutes south without traffic. Used to live there, nice folk around. Still some crazier than others but that's everywhere.

If north, Cullman is your best bet. Walmart like @gcr0003 stated above.

There's a Walmart right off 65 in Alabaster if you want to truck camp. Normally always rvs and semi trucks parked there so you're not alone. There's a rest stop in Clanton, which is another 30-40 minutes south that's OK. Local folk may gather in the wee hours to show off their rides and drag race down 65. Don't ask how I know.

If you choose not to camp in the truck there's quite a few hotels in Pelham, Alabaster, and Calera to choose from with good eats nearby.
