Blind from eating venison

I’ve never heard of this before and it’s pretty upsetting. There’s also a meat eater article about it linked below the video. I’m not sure what to think about it, it’s weird that it’s not more well known.

My first guess is that it might not be more well-known because most people don’t have severe complications like blindness as a result from it. Sounds like, per the article, that most people will just feel crumby for a few days and then recover and be alright.

But it’s good to know that cleanliness while cleaning and freezing for 10 days basically protects you from it.

Yeah this freaked me out to be perfectly honest. Hopefully his was an extreme case. And definitely freezing the meat first anyway from now on. I do that anyway just because I usually don’t get to it for a while.

Toxo is an interesting bug if digging into the “why” of God’s creation interest you.

Spread primarily by feline predators in areas where their prey graze and feed, the toxo then makes those infected animals more risk averse thus making them easier prey for the depositor of the toxo in the first place.

Really cool synergistic relationship between predator, prey and parasite.

That being said, I’ve eaten fresh kill and most likely will again either in the form of the inner loins or heart. It’s just one of many connection that still makes me feel primal and connected.

Yeah, it seems like a really sort of one-off thing. I hate it for the guy. I hope he can get through this. However, this is sort of like that show that used to be on "Monsters inside me", that always dealt with nasty parasites. If you think about all those nasty and exotic creepy crawlies out there you will never get any sleep.

Those folks should have ate more mud pies and shot more cats as a kid and built up them immunities.

Happen to our old hunting neighbor's close relative a number of years back. Didn't go fully blind but lost some vision in one eye.
