SO you guys think a 3/8 8" might do the trick for thick boys?
I weigh more than you and I use 3/8-8” without any issues at all

Maybe its just cheap made bolts from Lowes. How deep do you drill? And do you cut the threads off?I weigh more than you and I use 3/8-8” without any issues at all

Not a bad ideaDouble up bolts
just a standard 3/8 8" bolt
Im going tomorrow for sure. I may even get a 1/2" just for fun and giggles. How much do you generally leave out of the tree with a 6" bolt? 3"? 2"?I would guess the 8” would have more bearing than the zinc plating. You should try 6” and see if you have any issues.
If you bought them from Lowe's they probably weren't grade 8 bolts! The ones I got I had to order and I also found some at Industrial sales stores but I have never seen grade 8 bolts at Lowe's but maybe your Lowe's is different!Im going tomorrow for sure. Yeah it said said grade 8 on the front of the bin. But im like you, it seemed awful flimsy for a 3/8 bolt. When I stepped up on it anyway. If you bought them from Lowe's they probably weren't grade 8 bolts! You nailed @Jay_Disarray and @Weldabeast It had no marking on the head!!! Just some letters. It must be Grade 1 or 2. Not sure why it was in the wrong bin but this was very helpful. Maybe others can find this useful as well.Heres a way to identify bolts

You were right @Recurveaholic it was a Grade 1. The bins have huge Lettering on them that say Grade 8 but I guess people picking thru them left a Grade 1 and I picked up one that someone had left, of course...thanks for the responseIf you bought them from Lowe's they probably weren't grade 8 bolts! Ok I know some people here use Bolts for presets. I have leased land and the owner is fine with it as long as I remove after the season Here is my problem. Im 260 pounds of love and just tried an 8" Grade 8 5/16 bolt. It bent. What are my options? What have you big boys used and found that...saddlehunter.com
