My brother cut 1 strand on his Matthew’s VXR just below the D loop. We leave for KS on Friday. I don’t think there is enough time to get a new string before we go. I’m of the opinion to cut it at the next serving, and drive it like he stole it. He is concerned that the string may break on him. Are there any bow techs on here that can give me some sound advise?

Wasn’t Mathews one of those companies that advertised “if your bow breaks on a hunt we’ll loan you one that day blah blah”? Maybe not.
I’d look at trynna get a string same day. You’ll pay for it but there’s a chance.

I'd call your local shop, see if they have anything on hand, if they don't pull the trigger on the 60x and spend Thursday afternoon getting the new string installed

If I couldn't get a string or borrow a bow for the hunt, I'd drive to the nearest big box, buy a combo kit, sight it in, hunt with it, and then return it.

Or, if I wanted to be really clever, I'd keep it for the next time I was in a jam. Good to have a backup

This is actually a fantastic idea.
Or buy a crossbow off the same shelf.

Post a picture. In a serious pinch you can mend it but it’s definitely not a fix.

I'd call GAS bowstrings first thing in the morning and tell em your dilemma. I'd be willing to bet that they will build you a string and get it shipped out same day. Eric Griggs is a great guy to deal with. No matter what it costs it'll be worth it. You already have 5-600 in a tag. Good luck

Hard to say with out a picture.

Most Mathews dealers will have some Zebra strings on the shelf. If you will be traveling through or are from Ohio, you could contact Joey at Joey's Bowstrings. I would bet money he would help you out.

I wish I had a pic. I’m going to pick it up this morning, and take it to the guy that works on my PSE. I’m fairly confident that he is going to clip the strand at the closest serving, and build a new string to install when we get back. I’ve read on AT that tournament guys shoot with broken strands all the time. That is when a strands break during a competition. I think he will be good. I’ll let y’all know what the tech says.

Your dealer should be able to hook you up with getting everything set back to “close to you” to be able to hunt effectively. If not, find another everyone sells Matthews. The Zebra strings aren’t the worst in the world @bowhunthard88?
I wouldn't sweat installing a Zebra string. We install about 450 Zebra sets a year with a 1-2% "issue" rate. We have higher percentage rates of issues with some "higher end" stuff lol. Perceived value is a killer. I won't change the stock Zebra strings out on my personal bows until they're shot out...

I know we, as a shop, would prioritize that repair provided we had a bow (to exchange a string) or a new string in stock. I wouldn't be completely freaked out about it, but I wouldn't be fully comfortable either lol. Don't shoot it 500 times lol.
