Budget 1 sticking rig

Are cam cleats what everyone preferred for 1 sticking? I was considering a micro versa button instead because of rope frailing.

Cam cleats tend to be the better choice because call of the fact that you’re having to work below your waist in order to get it unhooked and get the stick up the tree. I have done it with rope mods on regular versa buttons and also Amsteel daisychains. They both work but none are so convenient as the cam cleat.

A good rope with a stiff sheath will only have minimal fraying. Are used for muddy pro sticks for years, and their rope is definitely not the best and it never even really frayed.

Was able to get it down to 2.2 lbs today by removing 5.75 inches of stick and adding @DanO standoffs. (Getting rid of the heavier muddy/api standoffs really helped)

Pics of the final product.

I did. Yes. I bought 2.5 inch Allen screws. You just drill two holes to match the cleat in your stick and fasten the cleat.
Cool. I’m going to be building a one-stick w/ platform once I figure out exactly what components I want.

Would love to find(or be able to build) a platform for the stick....that could be set horizontal for climbing, and then be able to angle it downward when at hunting height.

Look at the shikars design. Or if you can, just buy a mini and slap a scout on there. They’re great.

A “mini”? Is that a style of stick...or an actual manufacturer? Probably going to buy components(DanO standoffs etc)...and assemble it. Just haven’t decided which steps are “best”. Also haven’t decided on diy amsteel aider or maybe webbing.
I’m not going to obsess about making a ultralight stick...although I will try to keep the weight down. I just want to build a stick that climbs easy and is rock solid against the tree.

The platform will rotate perpendicular to the stick. Look it up on YouTube. Super nice.

How does platform rotating perpendicular help me? I want the scout to be able to be used as a step when climbing...and be able to tilt it at a 45 degre angle when hanging from saddle. Is that possible?

Oh I’m tracking. I have no idea. I misunderstood what you meant. It could be. People have mounted full size platforms to their sticks in the past that have a leveling system.

the shikar def looks like a winner tho. Are the Dan-o standoffs noticeably better than shikars? If the shikars do indeed hold the tree well...then I I would just have to get the cam cleat and choose a platform.

No idea if the scout platform will be right for me or not...as I haven’t even purchased a saddle(prob Cruzr XC) yet. But prob better to try the scout first...and then if need be try a larger platform In the future. I’m trying to keep my setup as minimalist as possible.

Welcome. And good luck. I’d encourage you to live on YouTube for a bit if you’re considering single sticking. Greg Staggs has a few good videos, G2 outdoors, DIY sportsman and others. There is a lot of trial and error here but if you read up and listen to what works, it helps.

Ya...I watched enough videos to make my eyes bleed. Lol
I’ve already tried one-sticking in my backyard...using a muddy stick with web aider and rock climbing harness. I liked it alot
