So i bought a used trophyline saddle off the FB sh classifieds page. Came in and everything looked as in the picture. Finally got the chance to play with it yesterday and noticed the biners were marked 2.5T. Thanks to this site that rating seemed off to me so i dug a little more. Well theyre .33c a piece biners off of alibaba. I talked to the seller and believe that he did not do it intentionally. He had bought the saddle second hand from a guy and never questioned them when trying various models. Always check over your stuff when buying used.
I mainly would like to make sure the prusiks are standard trophyline ones too. Ive attatched a photo. If anyone has them for a comparison and could let me know if they look legit id appreciate it. Im a little spooked now.
Also if anyone has any lightly used or new carabiners that they dont want or need for sale cheap id appreciate it. Dad on a budget over here and wasnt expecting to have to buy 3 new dont want handouts just trying to be frugal. Nothing fancy needed just enough to know im safe.
Thanks in advance guys so glad i found this forum

That's one of the big reasons I don't buy second hand gear unfortunately.

As said above, I would just replace the prusik so I was sure it's made correctly.

Thanks guys. Yea for how cheap it is ill definitely replace it. Would you guys recommend just going right to like rei with it. Are they generally able to be trusted with something like that or is it like the bow counter guy at bass pro?

REI has people very experienced with climbing and will give you good advice, IMHO.

Those look like biners and line that are used on a lifeline or for a safety harness. Common for new saddlers on a budget. I'd bin it and get climbing rated gear. I think I have some line remnants and unused prusik you can have, I'll look when I get home.

Those are legit prussic line from TL. I got a set from them
Can concur. They are pretty small diameter in comparison when coming from other lineman’s. It took me a little to get use to. If I still had that saddle I would be tying both ends of cordage directly to the caribiner with scaffold knots or working that knot on the back side of the prussic where it would not see max tensile loads. Sounds like the dude wanted to risk someones life to save a few bucks on biners. TL saddle comes with the standard locking black diamond ones and one pear shaped one for the bridge. I do recommend that larger one for TL saddles if you’re keeping the 2” belt bridge, it makes a big difference when turning hips.

I might be in the minority here, but I only buy rope, webbing, carabiners and other life support from places where I know almost 100% that the item is not counterfeit and the item is not used. That leaves out ebay and amazon. I buy from places like REI, Backcountry, Moosejaw, Eastern Woods especially found at https://doublesteps.com/ , and directly from the manufacturer (Metolius sells right from the factory). I'm also leery of great deals on life support items.

If they counterfeit Panasonic NiMH batteries convincingly, you can be sure someone would like to counterfeit Petzl items also.

EDIT: Just an FYI....I had to wait a long time for Cobra buckles to be shipped from the N. American factory direct distributor for Austrialpins (maker of Cobra buckles) because counterfeit Cobra buckles are relatively common (you should get serious jail time for counterfeiting safety items). So, just a heads up and case in point.
