Cam cleat to Tethrd 1 stick GEN3

Said it before and say it again!!! Why would you remove one of the best attachment methods and possibly damage a stick, to add a harken??!!! Sometimes we try to modify too much! There are sticks made for the Harkin! If you not worried about adding ounces then why buy a stick and void the warranty buy cutting off the attachment when you can buy a really great stick(for example from EOW) that would be about same price and made for the attachment!!!?? Hmmmmm?

You sound like the voice inside my head right before I do something like this anyway :)

Just replying to the OP question of whether or
Not anyone has done it before….there’s not much info out there or YouTube videos of it being done on the tethrd one stick. If anyone has any mechanical or fabrication skills whatsoever, they can do this swap. I’m just pointing out what to look out for. And voiding a warranty on a product that was 115$ on sale isn’t such a big deal to me as it may be for others, I get it. Just giving my insight and own personal experience on what I would say is the best of the best one stick, and made it better for my particular hunting method.

What is the wall thickness od a tethrd ONE stick gen3?

I know you’re trying to one stick, but forget about stacking multiple sticks if you add a cam cleat. Unless you just add it to just one one stick to one stick with. Lol

Exactly what my end goal was/is. I was tired of lunking in a 20lb climber stand on public land, plus my pack and all my layers. My objective was to shed as much weight as possible. If the single stick doesn’t work out and becomes more of a hassle while climbing, then I’m open to trying multiple sticks. As for now, I’m keeping my gear very minimal until I’m successful or find out it’s trial and error

Tinkering with the same idea and I found that 40’ of rappel rope with rappel device weighs more than 2 tethrd one sticks. I’ll still try to one stick with the regular figure 8 cleat.

@27travis Hahaha yeah man, same thing. I realized beforehand that I wouldn’t be able to stack multiple sticks. I did get a 40’ rope with the madrock safeguard. I knew that was going to add a bit of weight, but my goal was to either eliminate a pack or keep it significantly lighter. I’m either going to keep the pack with just the essentials like a kill kit (field dressing knives, hunting license, ID) . Or get one of thethrd’s pouches and keep it on my saddle on the back side. Practicing before the season is going to allow me to figure out which option will work out best. Of course, this is all based on early fall. Once late season gets here, im sure it’ll be a different ball game with additional layers on

Definitely bulkier no doubt, but I think it’ll simplify transitioning and moving the stick. Hope this helps. Also providing pictures with the factory tethrd cleat removed and also harken installed. Where I removed the old cleat, it still has residual glue or adhesive if anyone is wondering

You didn't want to add a inside aluminum pipe sleeve to reinforce the hole locations?
How thick are the titanium tube wall?

Not sure how thick the tube walls are, I’d have to get out the calipers to measure. My guess would be approximately 1/16”. Seems pretty solid with the cam clear instslled. Installing an aluminum tube on the inside isn’t a bad idea, however, when I contacted tethrd to remove the end caps ( wanted to fill with loctite foam to silence better) they didn’t recommend removing for safety and liability reasons. They said the end caps were glued in so I didn’t spend much time trying to fight getting those out

I think you'd have blown past liability by drilling holes lol.... why not just drill a small hole in top and bottom and fill it with spray foam then?

Lol.

Liability is already expressly limited to repair of the product. And yes, the 1 year warranty to original owner is voided by modification and therefore, whatever scintilla of liability.

As well, in the “General Safety Instructions”:
  • NEVER modify your climbing sticks in any way by making repairs, replacing parts, or altering adding or attaching anything to it except if explicitly authorized in writing by the manufacturer.

Lol, I may go that route of drilling a small hole into the end cap big enough for the spray tip…. I’ll wait and see if I have any noise issues.

@Plebe I know, I completely disregarded the warranty… I’m okay with that. In the end, if this setup doesn’t work, I’ll just purchase another single stick OR three

I get it.

Tethrd was formed of guys using gear out of spec.

Cam cleats on any sticks are not within designed use, so far as I know.

And even when ONE sticks are used as prescribed, Tethrd eschews liability for their product.

So...there's that.

But, a principal difference is way back when, a lot of the gear being modified was overbuilt. However, these sticks are built for ultimate lightweightness using construction methods that aren't necessarily comparable one for one to other products.

Just be safe is all.
