Cam Cleats aren’t necessary for One Sticking

But you can still put a cam cleat on a Tethrd One stick.
I haven’t done it, but have seen it. I also prefer a separate platform from stick, and use the Arsenal platform. Don’t see the advantage of holding and moving the whole platform around in front of me if it doesn’t save any weight. Hang the RZR on back of saddle and you forget it’s there til you need it. Still using a Hawk mini stick, but I’ll probably break down and buy the Tethrd One stick for next season.
How’s that RZR? I like that it folds flat, but have seen some bad reviews about getting it set on the tree.

Love it, I've never had a problem setting it. Smooth bark is harder with any platform but this thing digs in tight, you have to wobble some to get the teeth to release after untying. No need to toe cam or anything just attach and cam down once or twice with your hand and it’s rock solid. I have both the magnum and the smaller size, haven’t decided which I prefer. Magnum feels huge under foot, but bounces a little more when I walk with it clipped on back of saddle. With either one I don’t even feel them there when I’m climbing. A few times this season I’ve left them hanging on my saddle while hunting from top step of stick and had to reach back repeatedly to make sure it was actually still there and didn’t fall off.

Oh the one issue I had is the magnum started to chirp when camming it down, but I put some oil on it and hasn’t made a sound since(7 or 8 sits so far)

Had a ONE stick with a cam cleat for 3 seasons and it works fine. Using an EWO one stick, Tethered ONE stick with Predator or 2 ONE sticks with aiders and the Predator (all with squirrel steps). But honestly, the EWO is my primary just because it’s less stuff to fool around with.

How much do you weigh?

A local guy here that owns a mobile hunting shop was showing me his current one stick yesterday. It's a carbon latitude stick. He shaved the attachment ears off of it and added a cam cleat. He found one that the bolts lined up to the X's on the face of the stick and drilled through the center of the X. He will not sell or market them. He was also very clear that he is not advocating it as safe for others to do. It was interesting though and it was feather light. He let me mess with it . Was pretty cool, he said he has hunted off of it with a stand alone platform and just off of the top step( which has more footing than a standard stick due to the solid standoff). He said the last couple sits he has not hung a platform. I thought it was interesting to say the least. I can't for the life of me remember what cleat it was but I had never heard of it before. He ordered an assortment of them from a sailboat website to find one that was correct fitment. That with a 2 step aider was amazing. I am not advocating for anything, but he could be on to something if it holds up.

Maybe Tethrd will start putting them on their One Sticks and when they fail people can hate on Tethrd and the cam cleat. :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

That’s a great idea. Would consolidate two into one for me, lol.

I would take up pickle ball before I bought a tethturd product, but I have purchased a cam cleat product. I haven’t used to it yet to see if my distrust is justified though so it might not be fair to lump them in together just yet.

I’ve been using the Harken 150 since the wingman came out and I’ve weighed anywhere from 280-240. So far so good

I definitely want people to watch the video, obviously I want it to do well.

The reason I made the video and post is because I believe people have discounted viable one stick options solely because they don’t come with a cam cleat.

My goal is to show people that both sticks are an option.

The guy who invented 1 sticking (@Cbigbear) is on the forum now and then…he was using a cam strap from the get-go and maybe still does. He also invented no-sticking and was using a cam strap for that too, and still was as recently as last year, I think.

Hey Priv, have you tried 2TCing yet?
My Gran' Ma can 2TC faster than you one-stick...

Nah, I'm just messin' with you.

Thanks for the video! It made me jealous of the weather you have.

Yep still using the old cam strap. I’d tried the cam cleat, platform stick, and rappelling, but reverted back. I just don’t see the benefits of the “new” way.

I can use any stock stick and a single aider. It’s a simple efficient system. I find it odd that people prefer the below position. IMG_1925.jpeg

I didn’t like the platform stick either, too much weight/bulk to keep moving up/holding out. I do use a cam cleat and a 3 step aider on my stick and never reach back to pull it up, just have a gear tie loop to pull it up, and put the end of attachment rope through that. So when I pull the stick up between my legs I also have the rope and can easily pull it out of the cleat and advance.

Personally I think every movement against the bark makes noise that I’d rather minimize, so fewer moves seems better. But obviously if you’re familiar enough with any method it’s going to be better than another method that feels awkward.

Thats whats nice about evolution. people find better ways to do things. some people dont move on from what they know and both are ok

you don't need rope either.... as long as you weave vines together at the tree. me, I like rope, and cam cleats

That’s an over simplification. The cam cleat is faster than the dynaloc tab, but that didn’t result in a faster climb time.

The nuance in this conversation may not be for you but I wish someone would’ve spelled this out for me before I bought my previous stick setup.
